Hello!

I am strongly considering upgrading the turbos on my FL5 along with the injectors and fuel pump. For those who have done this, is the car actually more enjoyable to drive? Given that the power will be at least 400+ HP with those modifications, it is well beyond the capability of a FWD to utilize. I am worried it will take away from the daily fun by making things like torque steer, wheel hop, and overall car balance less optimal. I wanted to know what others thought. I currently have a tune from Jester and put in a PRL intake.

I'd suggest upgrading in steps over time and gauging along the way. What are your long term goals? What tires are you using?

I daily drive it. No particular goal, just wanna have fun. I’m just wondering how others feel about the power. Tires right now are all season cause it’s getting cold here in Chicago.

The question is essentially did upgrading the power take away from the driving experience. Is it more fun to drive this car more at the limit when that limit was lower or is it still hella fun with more power.

On the Kuro from 27won has similar spool to stock and makes more power up top.

Everything else is going to be a lot more lag and a lot more spinning

Get a tune first. Jester and Phearable make a stage 2 tune that really changes a lot about the car and IMO makes it perfect for a daily.

I've done springs, intake, Acuity shifter, and S2 tune and the car is the perfect daily for me. Going right to a bigger turbo without doing anything else first wouldn't be a normal modding path and you might like the car with a couple other mods rather than going right to turbos.

I have a tune from jester and an intake already lol. It’s a lot of fun already, just wanted to see what people thought about having more power and how the car drives.

Generally, bigger turbos increase top end power at the expense of low to midrange. I would't want that for a daily driver, unless commuting on the autobahn.
If I did it, it would be the Kuro and not even the kuro plus cause I don’t want a long spoil time cause that would suck.

Kuro and Kuro+ have very similar spool down low, but yeah, I would steer towards Kuro. Even without fuel system upgrades, you're looking at getting ~420-430WHP potentially with the Kuro. Throw in fuel and you'll be right below ~500. The Kuro feels very OEM+ which a lot of customers enjoy.

I have an FK8 with an MHI Stage 2 and full race hpfp on the way for 93 octane usage. Will be looking at ~430hp in dynojet numbers, up from about 380 with just FBOs and custom Phearable tune. Things that can help put more power down are better tires (200TW), anti-lift kits, and engine mounts, along with the upgrade turbo having a more gradual torque curve instead of such a spike with the stock turbo.

I had the MHI stage 2 turbo on my old Evo X. That thing spooled almost like stock and pulled all the way to redline. I beated on it daily for 5 years and never had any issues. I'll probably end up with the same turbo for my FL5 if I decide to upgrade.

Dang that’s impressive! How does the k20c1 rods cope with that? I read the motor didn’t have forged rods and the stock rods shouldn’t be taken over 400 crank tq?

I've been waiting on it for months, so I'm super psyched. Almost went with stock fuel system for simplicity, but eventually decided I wanted to get everything possible from the turbo on 93. Also have a spoon carbon bucket seat and kw clubsports going on at the same time wooo

Not sure where you scooped that up info....several members here are pushing near 600WHP on the stock rods. Not saying do that long term, but these stock motors are pretty stout
