during a cold start - while wheel is pinned all the way right pulling out of my driveway

slight deeper pitch groaning noise observed

goes away after we reach temps.

now this is probably just EPS and is most likely of no concern but just wondering anyone else heard this?

just a quick sanity check.

that’s crazy i was literally just wondering this exact thing. same situation. reaches temps its good. I think mine does it on both left and right turns though. the sound is like that typical power steering groan sound. I just can’t remember if its always been this way or not. Or why I would just now be noticing lol. I’ve had the car 3 years and have put 37k miles on it.

General rule of thumb for every car with power steering.
Don't hold pressure at full lock.
Go to full lock, then back off 2mm on the wheel. Pressure is relieved from the system and you are still at 100% lock.

it does it at any point during the turn, not just full lock. but i totally understand what you mean. that’s what i was always taught also.

yea you're right, upon further testing this groan occurs even with medium steering force, also drove the car until temps and the groan was repeatable at temperatures as well, i had never heard it return under temps yet but yea i repeated it as a test

not awesome

no recalls listed for my VIN but yea has me sweating a little

that groan in the other video is not what mine sounds like. like i said mine is just the power steering sound if that make sense. like the sound power steering makes when you’re at full lock in some cars (yes not good to full lock) but it happens at any part of the turn either left or right but like the OP said, it was only happening on cold starts. once its warmed up after a mile and a couple turns or so it goes away. it this just normal for all power steering and we are just now noticing it for some reason?

i’m constantly listening for new rattles or things like this so i feel like i would have heard it before but maybe i just assumed it was normal.

i’d be pissed it if was steering rack or something. i’m just about 1k miles over the 36k mile warranty.

at-least it doesn’t sound the same as that video but its hard to tell. after some further testing mine actually does only do it when you are pressing on the accelerator. i thought mine was doing it when not on the accelerator also. so it sounds like all of us are experiencing the same thing. but i think the person in the other thread with the video makes a noise even after the car is warmed up. but mine and the OP of this post only does it when its a cold start and just for a very short period of time.

someone had linked a post where someone had this identical issue resolved simply by swapping the MTF

will swap it out and see

Pinning the steering is considered bad with older hydraulic systems.

Back in the day I got yelled at enough by my Dad during driving lessons, that I don't make a habit of pinning any type of power steering.

During cold (high) idle?
not mine.. i always let my car warm up for a minute or 2 just so the rev’s drop below 1k until it’s idling in the normal range that
it would be when the car is fully warm.

the OP and I are meaning cold as in just the first couple miles after a cold start before the engine is up to correct temps.
