From the FK8 threads it doesn't appear to be worth doing a sub driver swap unless you amp it, if you are just going to swap drivers I think I'd go for something more economical. Alpine R is good stuff I just think it would be overkill without adding more power and would be unlikely to offer good value.

If you poke around on the FK8 forum there is some good discussion on options and what works - there is a depth limitation so not every driver will fit there either, I saw on FB that a guy was selling custom grilles for the FK8 that allowed deeper fitments.

I like the sound in my car overall but the lack of bass is something that disappoints me. I'll probably start researching the FK8 boards for a drop in replacement that doesn't require an external amp.

My 2017 Tacoma sounded better with the factory JBL system but I realize that in the Civic it's quite a bit further away.

Yeah, there really is no bass at all, the rest sounds fine to me.

What volume and bass settings are you guys using?

I agree that if you have the volume between 5-9 that it's really hard to hear bass, but between 12-15 on volume thats the sweet spot. So much so with the bass set at 6/6 it can shake the mirror and bumps decently. The low range bass is not that great but Mid to high is good.

Ive just kept mine at 4/6 in bass settings and it's been fine for now throughout most of the range. I think the issue is the amp settings are not linear, you can tell when you get to volume level 10 and above the bass really comes in where it should be louder below 10. It hasn't annoyed me enough to start swapping speakers but Ill keep reading this thread to see what you guys find for better drop in replacements.

I've switched my bass settings to 5/6 and its adequate. I tend to keep it between 15-20 on the volume knob when listening to music loudly.

The funny thing is in my new Lexus GX just one tick up from the middle is quite a bit more bass than default. So the person who said it's not linear in the Civic appears to be correct. 5/6 on the bass settings is good enough for me.

Hi from the UK. The Type Rs over here do not have the Bose option available (even though standard Civics do!) and the stock audio is pretty terrible. I had mine upgraded as a stage 1 setup with an Audison amp, Audison front door and A pillar speakers plus an Eton 10" sub under the passenger seat and a LOT of front door soundproofing. It now sounds pretty epic and the bass (depending on how you set the sub controller which is mounted discretely) could be fairly ludicrous should you wish..... Haven't done anything with the two rear door speakers (which is all the UK cars come with).

Interesting. Did the front door soundproofing help address some of the road noise? And was it easy to do DIY?

It would definitely not have been easy to do DIY: fortunately a friend of mine runs a well regarded installation company who I trusted to work on the car. The soundproofing has helped with the road noise for sure. I think the rear doors could do with doing to help further with that - the difference when you knock the rear is it sounds like a tin can and the front you get a solid thud. We also removed the noise module that generates the fake engine sound as I personally can't stand that. It could have just been disconnected but to ensure no rattles they just removed it as it can be reinstalled if necessary. I have a Milltek non res exhaust and the sound from that is far more enjoyable than that fake noise (well, in my opinion anyway!)

Do people swap the subs like the FK8? I did it when I got mine a few years ago.
