First post here so I apologize if it’s not in the correct thread, admin please fix if not.

So to make a long story short this guy rolled into the back of my car in the drive thru line And luckily it didn’t dent the actual bumper but the black plastic diffuser has a couple dents in it where the guys license plate frame hit it.

I can get a new diffuser for $120 at the dealership but my question is does anyone know if those diffusers are just shiny black plastic or are they painted black?

I’m really hoping it’s not painted or the price will go up tremendously.

does Anyone have an idea?

Thanks!

It’s very highly likely just black plastic, like the front grill.

If it's like the teggy then it's black plastic already finished.
Good news is you can find it online for under $70 71551-T60-J00

Can't discern anything from your photo, but it should be an easy repair, but probably less than your deductible - bummer if so. Did the other driver offer to pay?

I’m sorry I just meant to post the picture so you guys could completely understand which part I was talking about.

the damage is so minimal it would be hard to photograph. I’m being kinda petty I guess but it just bothers me that it didn’t happen from myself, and want to keep this car as nice as possible.

thanks for the reply!

Sorry I didn’t answer the other part of your question, yes the guy gave me his insurance card and phone number and I’ve been in contact with him. But yes I’m going to try to get him to pay for it without going through his insurance because I’m sure insurance will give me the run around with it being so minor and hard to see.

thank the good lord! It looks just like the integra so I’m assuming it’s the same thing. It looks fairly straightforward to replace it as well. I’m hoping I can do it myself fairly easy

I mean, it’s already damaged and being replaced. You coooooould just take a sharp object to it in the area that got hit and put a small but deep scratch in it to check for yourself if it’s indeed fully plastic. Do it and report back.?

lol! I might try that. The only thing that looks deceiving is it kinda has orange peel look to it a little bit so it kinda looks like paint.

The rear diffuser is too flimsy to be molded plastic with a gloss black clearcoat but I cannot say for certain. Either way, you can get the part for less than $100 shipped. Worst case scenario a body shop will charge you a few hundred dollars max to spray it if it indeed comes unpainted. Seems like a relatively cheap fix.

My guess is it's painted gloss black. But as others have mentioned, it's a relatively inexpensive paint job from a shop. I paid $200 to have my spoiler sprayed.

Cool thank you all. Either way that’s not bad, I was thinking it would be much higher than that if it need painted.

Search the part number in Google and take your pick of vendors. I personally have had good experiences with with All Discount Parts. They are often the cheapest and the service is excellent. Pro tip: if the shipping quote at checkout appears to be off, contact them to inquire because the shipping is prefilled by their system. For example, if the shipping quote for a keychain is $25, contact them to inquire. It's usually incorrect and they will take care of it.
