Do you have a recommendation for a carrier to use to transport the Type R?
Reliable, Intercity, and Thomas Sunday are solid. Montway Auto Transport and Sherpa Auto Transport are decent in my experience; however, they are auto transport brokers. In other words, they are middlemen who place cars with one of many carriers they work with. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's important you know the difference. No matter who you select there are actions you should take to increase the likelihood of an excellent customer experience. A few items to consider:

1. If you requested the OEM floormats remain in the plastic bag it comes in, there will be no floor mats in the car. Have the dealership place paper floormats for all four seating positions.
2. If the plastic seat covers the car arrived at the dealership have been removed, have the dealership place the plastic seat protector Service uses on both front seats.
3. Work with the dealership to protect the key fobs from getting marred up when they are handed over to the auto transport company.
4. Request extensive interior and exterior photos of the car before pick up.

I used Reliable Carriers enclosed transport and had an amazing experience.

Car was transported from Michigan to CA within a week.

Have you considered a road trip? I live in Tennessee in the winter and Cape Cod Massachusetts in the Summer. I found a Boost Blue FL5 in Manchester, CT just before Christmas last year at MSRP. I flew into Hartford CT, the dealer picked me up and I drove the 170 miles to Chatham, MA, parked the car and flew home out of Boston. Round trip air fare was $275 and I used less than a tank of fuel. I registered the car in Massachusetts and the CT dealer handled all the paperwork. In your case, you've got a much longer road trip, but think how many bucket list items you can cross off during the drive! And you only need a one way airplane ticket.

Buy a plane ticket, buy it yourself in person, and drive back. Might as buy a local one at that price or show them the price sheet to see if they would match it. They will likely call your bluff and let you buy it out of state.

Do you know which Norm Reeves? They have several dealerships across SoCal. I've contacted most of the Norm Reeves dealerships and they are all asking over MSRP. The one in Huntington Beach is firm at 10k over.

Thanks! All this is very helpful.

Have you heard of Goliath Auto Transport?
I have not, but you have plenty to work with in the way of recommendations from this thread.

New cars are not transported across the country in open trailers. They're moved by rail and then shorter distances by truck.

If you select an open trailer, see if they'll commit to putting your car on top. But I'd still recommend enclosed for a new car going as far as yours will be.

Either way, good luck with it.

Found a CW CTR in OH. They seem to be abundant in this area. MSRP and it's still in transit from Honda. I requested they leave all plastics on the car and not touch anything after PDI. Put down a 3k deposit and I also found a carrier to transport the car from OH to CA.

All the people suggesting road tripping back to California must not live in cold climates. Driving in freezing/snow across the country with the stock Michelin PS4S is a bad idea...
