Had a great time at Barber over the weekend. Unlike NCM where it was cooler, the temps (mid-80s) really highlighted the need for some cooling modifications. I could get 270+ oil temps after only a couple laps and it was clear the car was pulling power. With cooler temps and/or better cooling I think the car could do a 38/39 basically stock.

Also confirmed that my rear cupholder mount isn't going to work out long term, so enjoy the weird rear-side window camera view. Getting a decent mount sorted is next on the list.

Even with all that the car was super fun - highly recommend checking out Barber. Between the track and the facilities it's one of my favorites.

Nice Lap! Just FYI - you probably already know from the One Lap experience but the oil temp gauge is just a calc, not a sensor. Given you are basically stock (not sure if you are still on the OE weight oil), it's probably not far off, but coolant temps may be a better thing to watch, especially after cooling changes. @siwelnosaj has a great looking triple-pass radiator now, and may as well do the HEL oil cooler (although better options are in development).

Yeah, I'm familiar with the limitations of the OEM stuff. I'm running 5W-30 oil but otherwise everything is stock, so I'm guessing it's pretty close. At this point I don't know that it matters since the car thinks it's 270+ and is definitely pulling power.

I actually expected the coolant temps to be a bigger issue. I was mostly below 220 doing 2~3 flying laps at a time. Still going to be looking at radiators as well as the WOT oil cooler solution, which I've definitely been eyeing for the last week or so ?

That's interesting - my coolant actual and oil calculated has been in the same range but I haven't observed power being pulled *yet* (and honestly it seemed like oil calculated wasn't being used for anything), but it also could be related to my tune vs. the factory tune.

My guess is that's part of the benefit of tuning. On my laps when I was cleaning stuff up on lap 2~3 I would be up through bascially every technical section and losing time on the straights vs. when the car was cool. I told myself I wasn't going to tune but it's definitely tempting.

My current E30 tune (and my 93oct tune from last year) runs ~2-3psi less boost than factory (but makes way more power), so that could help keep as well with keeping things a bit cooler. There are definitely a lot of calculated and actual monitors in the background (as I've learned through the tuning process with @JST Performance ) that control parameters on the stock tune in a way that can override things unexpectedly - it's definitely looking at a lot of things in the background (ie, calculated EGTs, compressor outlet temp, etc).

I do think that with tuning the car will not pull power as easily. It's a double edged sword though cause now you as the driver have to be more willing to pull back if it starts to get to that point
