Interesting Stories with your FL5

Have you ever had moments where a random person give you a thumbs up, to interesting encounters in your FL5? Let's hear your stories.

I usually give people a thumbs up or compliment whenever I come across a cool car. I was heading to a mall one day. The weather was on the warm side, so I roll down my windows just after I got off the freeway. Just outside of where I needed to be, a random girl in a Tesla (I think it was a Model Y) decides to give me a compliment. It was interesting as she did not want to wait until we both stopped at a light to do so.

Nothing really interesting, but I've had some people ask if they could take pictures of it. I know of only 1 other R in my area, and for a while I had the only one. I typically avoid people when I can ? I

I have gotten thumbs up while driving a couple of times.

But my best experience was when I went to a Supercars and Coffee down in Miami and the FL5 had just come out and they asked me to park in the reserved parking since it was the only FL5 they had seen at that point.

I found it hilarious because it was next to some very special cars.

Is it Boost Blue. My old Boost Blue FK8 got tons of looks and thumbs up. No one looks twice at my SGP FL5.

Very true, my boost blue fk8 has gotten a lot of attention from random people, especially older women (which I'm not sure is a flex or not) but mostly people commenting on the color, and the white CE28s when I had them on. The fk8 has a much more striking appearance than the FL5s, I've had FL5s pass by me and not even notice because they fly under the radar.

This is the first truly special car I have owned. I’ve had a few thumbs up moments. The best was coming out of a post office one morning and having the clerk follow me outside to see the car and loose his shit over it. He was genuinely more excited than I was when I bought it!
Another time I was pulling away from a stoplight and I hear from the car next to me “rev it!”. I did not rev it because I was thinking “pal, this is not an exhaust note worth listening to” ?

I've had a vet, viper and 1k hp evolution 8 and truth be told the fl5 gets more compliments than those others I have owned. One of the main reasons I bought the fl5 was to be low key. It hasn't worked yet.

On a drive to Malaga I overtook a driver towing a track modded GT3 RS, he gave me a thumbs up on the side window of his van, petrol-head connection moment!

A few weeks ago I was driving from VA to MD and spotted a grey FK8 to my right. Driver gave me the thumbs up, but before I could respond in kind he was gone. Not 30 seconds later, a black FK8 pulls up on my left, to which I give him the thumbs up but I don't think he noticed me as he was passing. Same situation all over again!

Oddly enough, all three of us took the same off-ramp and caught back up with each other. We all cruised together for about a mile or two, grey FK8 takes his exit, and then I took mine. I make that drive once a week and haven't seen them since, though now I'm always keeping an eye out.

Some door-to-door sales guys (A pair) just Wednesday came to my house while my FL5 was parked in the driveway. They loved the car and when they knocked we talked about the Type R and other cars for literally an hour, awesome conversation. I let them look inside of it and they were blown away. It's always nice to share my car with someone else, yes it feels good that someone appreciates what you have. A lot of us I think own the car but don't realize what some people would give to even just be able to drive the car, so for them I'm sure it was really cool.

After we were done talking about cars, they tried to sell me on the Vivint, and I told them to kick rocks hahaha. Not literally, but just told them I wasn't interested. I think we all enjoyed each other's company, good dudes honestly. I'm sure talking about the car was a "foot in the door" to a sale attempt, but I think they were genuinely cool people.

I always park my MR2 Spyder in the Porsche section at car shows. From far away, it looks like a 986 Boxster. It's fun to watch people go from a $100k Boxster GTS' and $250k 911 Turbos to a $5k MR2 Spyder and do a head take.

About a month before I bought my FL5, I was driving my 2020 FK8 Civic Type R in Championship White to a QuikTrip for some gas. I was in a different part of town and decided I wanted a cookie, so I went inside to grab one. When I walked back out, I was surprised to see a 2023 Civic Type R in Sonic Gray Pearl parked in the next lane. I waited for the owner to come out, and we ended up chatting about our shared love for Hondas. It turned out we knew some of the same people. He asked if I wanted a ride, and of course, I said yes! After a solid 5-minute ride, he even offered to let me drive it. That was my first experience driving an FL5, and little did I know, just a month later, I’d own one myself.

Originally, I had planned to wait until 2024 to buy one, but while on a two-week vacation, I had plenty of time to browse for deals. I found a great one and jumped on it, driving all the way from Kansas City to Virginia to pick it up. The road trip was amazing, and I got to see so much of the Eastern U.S.

I got a thumbs from a Porsche driver. I've had numerous people shout out "nice car" or "I love your car" to me. The Fedex guy was delivering a package to us as I was washing the car in the driveway and he was all about the CTR. He stuck around for a few minutes BS'ing and wanted to see under the hood.
