Another way to look at it is that it's better than several $85k+ "sports cars", but not all.

Subjectively, of course. But I've owned a B9.5 Audi RS5, which I selected over a G80 M3 for a variety of reasons, and I prefer my DE5 over that car by a dramatic margin.

Bottom line is, I don’t get any more enjoyment in the Porsche than I do in the type R

It's hard to describe exactly why but purpose built sports cars, no matter how basic I think will always have a little X-factor advantage over something like the Type R, since Type R for example is based on a car meant to be practical, efficient and comfortable above all else.

I've discussed in other threads on this forums and don't want to be an annoying, but I am hard pressed to pick the FL5 over my lowly GR86 for a drive. I can't say the same as @FL5Frank! The 86 is a bit crude compared to FL5 and obviously slower. The overall driving experience, at least for me right now is distinctly more enjoyable. FL5 is a blast for sure - I always say 'it's just different.' I guess it's how my current tastes are shaking out. These things change with the wind though, and in a year or two I could be into low rider pickups, who knows

I also had an 86 also, I’ll agree to disagree, I wouldn’t take anything below the price point of an FL5 as an all around sports car

I think what you are feeling is the lighter weight and feedback, one can argue the 86 delivers on feedback slightly more because it feels more toss-able

which is why I still rank my gt4 > the fl5 and anything else I owned prior which was a lot of cars

I would not take an 86 over an R IMO

I mainly prefer bmw m cars. I got this type r due mainly believing in the hype. I compared this to my current g80 m3 standard tramission. The type r driving 9/10 I would prefer over the bmw. But when I am at the track trying to squeeze my own 100% driving talent the bmw is far more rewarding because if you go beyond your skill set that rear wheel can bite you and maybe that the thrill I get. But driving it day to day people would see me driving the m3 and they would look at the corner of their eye. But when i drive the type r people would give me a positive interaction. In short driving at my actual limit I prefer rwd.

IMO at the end of the day, what makes the Type R so popular with car enthusiasts is that it actually is a great drivers car.. the engagement points, the fun, communicative, and nimble chassis - it's all there and appeases my need for a great drivers's car.

It won’t outperform a good rear wheel drive set up, that said the performance is very easily accessible by a noob
and enjoyed on a daily basis. It’s not just a good car, it’s a good sport car.

Yeah my Spyder was 145k, R8 was 235k, AMG was 190k

CTR is more fun (not faster) than any 85k car I can think of. Unless your idea of fun is making lots of noise and smoke, which I also get.
