Hey everyone. Sorry for the urgency as im currently under the car about to do my break in oil change.

I noticed some oil on the underside tray. Then started poking around and saw oil on the passenger side of the axle where there is a baring. You can see the drop of oil.

I dont see oil anywhere on the engine or anything. Idk if this is from the factory or not. Never saw anything on the garage floor and only have just over 900 miles.

Please see pics

Should I still continue with the oil change? Seems like its from the axle or maybe some leftover from the factory, not sire

Also I saw another thread with the same thing. He sae the valve cover leaking.

I checked everywhere around the valve cover and there is no leak at all. Totally dry from what I can see.

Here are some pics of the top of the axle shaft. No oil residue from the top. Seems like the axle bearing is leaking. What's weird is the oil has no smell.

I would wipe up everything and everywhere as much as you possibly can get to under there. Then revisit when you service again, or sooner if you are inclined.

Since there is no obvious pooling of oil on your tray or floor, it’s not a huge leak. Now you have pictures for comparison in the future. When you are under there again and there is further evidence then there is an issue. If there isn’t, then it was an anomaly. Since it’s a new car you/I/we really don’t know what happens during the assembly of the car and before it is in our possession.

There are drips on the tray (which is what made me start looking) and on the exhaust hanger just below the bearing. Otherwise you're right, its nowhere else besides on the bearing.

I just didnt know if its something I should address right away. It's not a daily driver. I've had it for a few months now.

I'll lift the car back up and clean up the area really well. Might as well do the oil change if im lifting it up again lol.

I saw many posts on the civicx forums for Si and regular civics having this issue. Some people got the whole intermediate shaft replaced under warranty (only to have the new one start leaking again). Some didnt report back.

Others cleaned up the area, and the leak didnt really come back.

And others had the dealers push back and/or replace the wrong part. One guy said the tech just cleaned the area and said we'll check the next time the car is in for service.

Thing is I do my own oil changes, no real reason for me to go to the dealer unless there is an issue.

Thanks for the replies, if anyone else has experience with this or can take a peak at their axle shaft bearing next time. I would love to get your take.

I agree with cleaning it up and keeping an eye on it. The axle bearing is packed with heavy grease, so that can't be the source.

I had a similar leak with my Sport Touring. I brought it into the dealer and they said its "packing grease" that will occasionally come out due to heat. I was very skeptical about it. They told me to just keep an eye on it and bring it in if it started making any noises. I don't have the car anymore, so hopefully someone else will be keeping an eye on it.

My shop just fixed my 2022 civic hatchback small seep by time belt bolts to tight it. No more oil leak. Suggest your shop check it out.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and input! I put the car back up and cleaned that area thoroughly.

I'll check again the next time I need to be under there.

I saw a couple fl5 oil change vids on YouTube, in which you can see a drop of oil on the exact same spot of the bearing. Seems like they were not aware it was there.

I found the same drip during my first oil change as well. Don’t see any other leaks or an obvious source for it. Did anyone figure out what this was?

It might not be the bearing and I don’t like dealers touching the car if I can avoid it, they don’t always seem to know what’s going on 😂

Seemed too thin to be bearing grease.

Those leak all the time. it's your car so if you want to tackle that make sure you use the copper hammer the ends won't get damage
