No i am not negative one bit and im out of Southern California. By the way its not a noise, i know a noise will for sure mean a red flag but its a feel in the shifter that i feel every time i shift, like the shift do go in smooth and if they do its rare. I am also not new to driving manual cars. Bro i dont mind if you think negative about me and if i mention NOT wanting to go through the legal process is because i really would not want that. Im also not dropping off my car, the Honda tech will be with me and he will test drive the car.
Cool. I’m just saying it’s hard to gauge you and your situation based on the info provided. You’re talking doom and gloom before even taking logical steps to help yourself. Do you understand my perspective, now? That’s all I’m sayin. Doesn’t mean that my perspective is correct, but it’s the kind of vibe you’re projecting. I’m sure I’d feel differently if this was an in-person conversation. Anyway…

Glad you’re taking it to be looked at. What you’re describing is that the shifter is overly notchy and doesn’t smoothly “click” into position like it should. Is this correct? I think there’s a number of things that can cause that (including being a new trans), but I highly doubt that it’s your actual transmission (the gears etc) that’s the problem. It sounds to me like it’s something with the shifter, the linkage, or possibly the sychros.

It’s a car. It’s under warranty. It’s fixable.

All good dude and damn you make it sound so simple and im not saying it in a wrong way and yes you have explained it perfectly on what im going through and i guess im just frustrated that given that its a new car, i dont want it to be worked on because its a new car. And yeah it might be fixable but i guess ill find out, hopefully.

No 2nd gear grinding issues to report here, but 2nd does whine and make more noise more than the surrounding gears.

Trust me. I understand the reluctance to let anyone touch your new baby. But, you have to do it unless you know how to fix it yourself. It is truly that simple and logical despite the emotional struggle. Hope you get it fixed.

When purchasing something new that's why they give a warranty. My focus RS had the diff leak from the factory, 370z Nismo had a bum throw out bearing at 2k miles, AMG Cla 45 had an evap sensor fail at 10k miles, had to remove the gas tank, drop the rear axle. It will get fixed and the car will be fine.

I sometimes grind 2nd gear when I shift too quick.

I've been shifting more gently with enough precise, force using 2-3 finger shifting. These cars aren't designed for hard shifting like mustangs.

My FL5 has 6000k miles. Had second gear twice about 3500 miles ago. Very disappointing. Didn’t grind again for 2500 miles so I figured it was fine. Just did it again this morning but I’ve noticed one thing that’s consistent: it’s only happened when I’ve unwittingly pulled out in front of someone and had to turn and accelerate hard with wheel spin and then it ‘buzzed’ in my hand going into second. One of three times, the roads were also wet, which meant less then zero traction.

Does turning and hard acceleration with wheel hop put any kind of specific strain or movement of engine within the engine mounts? I know a lot of people seem to solve this issue with an aftermarket rear engine mount.

edit: it also occurred to me that this could be user error, as well. In these situations, I’m very much ‘rushing’ and not in a precise or fun way but in a don’t -get-hit-by-that-car way.

Just had a second gear grind this morning. This was the third time. The first two could be driver error cause I wasn't paying attention, but after that I was pretty cautious but it still happened. This time I was quickly merging to the left lane from 0mph, hard acceleration and fast shifting. I was sure the clutch padel was all the way down and the shift knob was fully in second gear. The gear ground for 1 to 2 seconds and then went normal. The car is ~3500 mile. I was shifting way faster in my z in the past and never had an issue.

BTW when I just press the clutch down and shift among 6 gears, the second gear is noticeably noisier, sounds like in contact with a piece of metal or something.

Pretty sure the dealer won't do anything about it since it can't be easily reproduced. But will mention it next time in a service appointment.

I have had similar experiences and almost each time I was turning while trying to quickly accelerate and shift into 2nd.

I'm new to here and recently purchased a championchip white fl5. I'm coming from a 19 si full bolt on, ppg gears, ctr clutch / flywheel swap, and a delay valve deleted clutch master cylinder. I'm currently at 330 miles on my new fl5. I've experienced the first to second gear grind four times since I bought it at 6 miles. I don't know if it's me being used to my other setup or the transmission itself or the clutch pedal setup perhaps. It happened the first time at about 28 miles on it. Kind of spread out since then mileage wise.

I found it interesting that I'm not the only one though who noticed this behavior and I never had that issue with my other car.

FK8s had this issue with some people I knew too

it seems like the common theme is when people “rush” to toss it into second

I have about 1300 miles no second gear grind though

I think you need to be more deliberate and pull the gear straight down instead of directing the knob and make sure you clutch all the way down
