Hi all,

My detailer scratched TF out of my interior dash piece, equally ironic and disappointing. This is just one of the areas but the damage spans almost the whole length of the piece. And I've been thinking about ways I can fix it or at least cover it up.

The OEM dash piece is like over $500, and also the replacement is too involved for me. I'd have to also find a way to transfer over the mesh part with my badge number. The next thing I thought about are overlays. Are there any out there that aren't super flashy? I'm not a big fan of the glossy carbon look, but if there were dry carbon overlays or something else matte and OEM-looking, I'd be open to that. Buffing it out is a massive nono. Wrapping could work but I'd say there's an over 50% chance my interior would get cut when trimming the piece.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'd check ebay. You can easily move over the number badge. Everything is just held together with clips and some screws.

Why not make him pay for it and have the dealer do it?
This. If they damaged your car, they should fix it. Why pay for damage someone else caused, unless...they're denying it and you have no proof.

Honestly it's too late now. This happened a few weeks ago and I expressed my concerns to him and he offered a free maintenance wash and that's about it. I wish I thought about asking if he could replace it when we talked.

It's just now starting to really bug me and I'm realizing how much of a pain in the ass it is to have this area jacked up.

I really don't think it's too late. I would circle back to him and say you didn't realize how much of a pain it was going to be and that you need the dealer to do the work. Get a quote from the dealer and bring it to him.

In that case I'll see what I can do. I also wanted to take this opportunity to get an actually good looking overlay but I don't think that's possible. These glossy carbon ones are kind of ugly imo...

1. Go back to the dealer
2. Why is buffing it out a no no? You could probably get all of it out (or virtually all of it out) with a light (not very aggressive) polishing compound and a microfiber towel.

I think scars can add character

why are these particular scratches so bothersome? Do they rub against your arm or something when you are driving?

regardless, sorry to hear that. Hope you get it sorted easy and painless whatever you decide to do

You can likely respray and blend, of course, after applying heavy interior masking to the car, ensuring no overspray. I'm not sure if the picture does it justice, but it definitely sounds like it is bothering you. I know people don't like being confrontational, but this is a time to state that the detailer needs to pay for the damage. And what type of detailer is this? I can understand an amateur possibly doing this, non-paid, but a pro thinking that a free maintenance wash is acceptable. Why would you even want this person touching the car again?

Given the nature of the surface it's on, my detailer said it might cause more harm than good

I agree to an extent. My exterior is thrashed from all the canyon and track driving.

This is different because these scratches weren't caused by normal use nor was I the one to cause them. It's annoying to go to my detailer (they take care of cars) to have this happen.

To be fair, it was one of my detailers henchmen. The main guy himself is great. But every time one of his guys touches the car, some corners are cut. With that said I did confront him and even told him my experiences of when his guys are working on my car. He said he'll think of a remedy
