I had the same issue. With less than a thousand miles on the car I found that my coolant tank was spraying coolant. I suspect that they had over tightened the bolt holding the coolant tank, causing the plastic to crack and eventually leak. I looked into getting it replaced under warranty, but the part was on back order with no ETA. I went ahead and got the Radium coolant tank.

I'm gonna have to take a look, I might have everyone beat. I noticed a coolant smell since 10mi on the odo and it has come and gone since  good to know maybe I'm not crazy.

I haven't owned a vehicle with coolant trouble since 2005 yet that smell still sends alarm bells in my head just like it did when I was broke and driving 400 mi back and forth to college 5-6 times a year.

No ETA would make my blood boil. When I got it fixed under warranty the replacement arrived within days.

I have had a coolant smell since new as well and will double check to see if I have the issue. I will also loosen and retighten bolts maybe prevent it if it’s not broken already. 200 miles or so

Can anyone pull a picture from the Facebook posts or wherever this issue was discussed otherwise? To see what and where their issue was?

I took a look at mine and can't find anything amiss. Fingers crossed I am just crazy and the coolant smell has been in my head, or is "normal." Which in my experience would never be the case.

I read somewhere that parts manufacturing is severely behind across the entire car industry right now. There are likely many factors at play, perhaps including labor strikes. No ETA is super aggravating regardless.

So, according to the parts manager, no "updated tank" exists. The part numbers are identical for both the Type R and Type S. The tank is manufactured in England, and there appears to have been some sort of spotty production flaw. Honda is aware, but has yet to issue an official recall.

I got the same Mid-January estimate when I dropped my car off on 11/28. I ordered the Radium coolant tank the previous week after noticing the coolant leak. Getting that Radium tank was always my end goal.

At first they gave me loaner and thought they could have the part in a few days but let me know on 11/30 that it was going to be a longer timeline. They knew about my Radium tank and after my service advisor talked to the service manager they agreed to install the aftermarket tank to get me back on the road ASAP.

I had already constructed the tank (along with adding some RTV to supplement the paper gasket) so they just had to chuck it in. I was a little bummed as I had wanted to do the install myself, but I wanted the car back more. I dropped the tank off on 12/2 and was back in the car early afternoon on 12/4.

Great service and experience all around, especially considering the headaches I had with another dealer on a different issue. They are going to call me when the new OEM tank comes in so I can pick it up as well.

Just moved the car out of my driveway this morning and noticed coolant on the ground. I looked at the back of the tank and coolant was pooling up in the back corner of the reservoir. No mods whatsoever on the car and just turned 900 miles. This is rather disheartening to be honest.
Dang! I just hit 1000 miles. I wonder if there is anything that you can do before hand to prevent this from happening? I wonder if it's from vibration or just a crappy seam?

Just replace it with the Mishimoto coolant expansion tank.

I had coolant on the garage floor a week ago. After opening hood you could see coolant bubbling out of the coolant reservoir seam on the back side of the reservoir. I made a service appointment (car is actually there right now). I then called the parts department to see if they had a reservoir on the shelf - they did not but said there were a couple hundred at the distribution center and could be at the dealer next day but not same day. I called the service advisor back and convinced them, based on me seeing the coolant coming out of the seam, to primitively order a reservoir so my appointment could be completed on the same day.

I’ve had my Radium coolant tank in for a week now. Will be tracking on Sunday and will see if there are any leaks. I did apply hondabond on the seal so hopefully that prevents any leaking.

I went through this same ordeal. I had a service writer tell me they had updated the expansion tank, but as others have stated it's the same part number. It is a horrible design and I was without my car for a week waiting on the part. I went with Mishimoto tank, but I am yet to install it.

I went with these instructions. Mishimito has instructions up for fk8, which is the same install for fl5, but their install was way too complicated. They removed lots of panels underneath to drain, this install doesn’t do that, just need to get some hose clamps, and I recommend buying coolant hose picks, those are always a pain to remove.
