Hi all,
I bought my brand new FL5 during the winter.

Its been sitting in my garage waiting for better weather.

Once spring comes around, I'd like to ceramic coat it.

I've coated a few cars before and I'm just wondering what people have had success with in terms of prep.

Namely, is NH0 paint even hard enough to require any compounding? Previous Hondas, I was able to compound just deeper scratches and then just use a medium-ish agressive polish to de-swirl the whole car.

I am sure I'll just find out in the spring, but getting stir crazy and wanting to talk about cars for now.

So please let me know! Or point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance

They all get the same clearcoat, so paint color should not matter so much (other than black cars will show more issues and white cars will hide more issues).

I used iron remover (these cars get hammered with rail dust) and then a wash with a clay mitt. Wipe down with prep or IPA. That is all the prep my CW car needed before ceramic. There were no issues requiring paint correction.

I had mine paint corrected prior to the ceramic coat. Manufacturers do not do a great job painting cars. Is it required? I dont think so but I would recommend it.

Ok. Well, I'll decontaminate it and polish it.

I'm sure that the dealership put it through the meat grinder during the 1st wash, so I'm sure there are swirls.

Mine was in bad shape when I received it. Wash, decon, polish, prep, ceramic coating. Adjust your steps based on the condition of the paint and your expectations.

Definitely decon, especially with white. Iron remover, clay and then polish.

Remember to always start with the least abrasive first.

Try watching videos of the new fangled clay towels. Seem to be way less intensive than the clay bars.

Also the gloss black easily scratches too.

One point, buy a reputable brand and dont get hung up on 10/25/90 year coatings.

I daily drive mine (salt, snow, rain etc) and garage it. But cars will always end up with rail dust or rust blooming especially on white. Then as you decontaminate, you end up having to polish again if you mar the paint.

I keep polishing to a minimum as most new car paints are so thin and we have finite clear coat.

Definitely find a good glass coating and wheel coating as well. Ive had Goodluck with cquartz and Gyeon.

For what its worth if got too cold and I applied Sonax Polymer net shield and it doing awesome. Only because I didnt have time to prep for a coating.

Yeah, I don't plan to drive mine in snow or salt.

Everything else is game. And it'll probably be garaged when its not being driven.

I know realistically, any coating is not gonna last more than 1-3 years max.

I had good luck with Adams graphene coating on my other cars. I'll probably try that.
