It's not about elitism. You clearly don't get it. It doesn't matter how closely matched they are. If you wanted an FL5 from the very beginning and could not land one, the DE5 in many cases (not all) will feel like a consolation prize. A consolation prize because 1) it is not the car you initially wanted; and 2) will cost you more than the car you initially wanted. And when you see an FL5 driving around, that sensation of settling will hit you. We've all been there at one time or another. There's nothing degrading or disrespectful about that.

And people need to get out of their feelings with this DE5 vs. FL5 stuff. If you feel like the DE5 is being "othered", you shouldn't care so long as you got the car you wanted. People like what they like, and want what they want. Be confident in what you selected and why - own it. Swooping in and telling people every chance you get that they're the same car and to get over it is such a bogus talk track. If they're the same car, why does this question or topic keeping rearing its head? It's on Reddit, YouTube, CivicXI Forums, Integra Forums, Civic11 Forum, digital media, print media, etc. Because the differences matter to people.
Funny how people are so quick to dismiss others opinions or in this case facts about how identical these cars are when they are told it the same car yet it is totally okay to talk about why the few small differences matter and how they are so different and how you will regret not getting one over the other lol. Sorry but it all sounds like BS to me. i wanted an FL5 at first and I wanted a DE5 as well. Jumped at a chance when a DE5 came up, never got a chance to buy an FL5, do I care? Nope, car is too good, do I regret not getting and FL5, nope, also after seeing both in person the DE5 is definitely the looker of the two. ( Looks are subjective I know, but the FL5 is too European looking imo). I think it’s a disservice to tell someone to “wait it out” knowing they may never get the chance especially in Canada where we get screwed in supply. These cars are meant to be enjoyed, and if a chance comes up you can always swap cars. I agree some people are dead set on over another for whatever reason and maybe I don’t get it because as an enthusiast brand elitism has never been a thing for me, I’ve owned performance Hondas, Acuras, Mitsubishis, BMWs, Toyotas etc… as long as it is fun to drive and fits a specific ask I have. I get that’s not everyone and if you like one over the other fine but telling people one is a consolation prize is ridiculous. Maybe I am just getting old, the car community has changed in my 25 years behind the wheel. I don’t know why this topic is so prevalent, but it does seem that many that were so adamant have had the chance to experience both and haven’t softened their approach. Even folks that were so angry the DE5 existed (for whatever reason) actually like the idea and welcome it as it just means more fun manual cars in this time of boring SUVs and electric cars.

ok so end rant haha, look I’m not trying to argue I just feel like I would want someone to tell me “Hey don’t miss out on either one of these” if they were enjoying it and I was waiting patiently.

Life is too short.

Glad you’re enjoying the car still man! Would have kept it for sure if I didn’t know option 1 was imminent. Totally agree that if you are unsure if your FL5 order is 100% firm and you have a DE5 staring you in the face, to jump on the DE5 and sell it down the road if you have a shot of a FL5 and feel like it’s worth the switch.

Yes sir! Still finding any excuse to go for a drive! (Which is not always the easiest since I have 2 kids and work from home 90% of the time). I mean would a flame red FL5 tempt me, maybe if I got the chance lol, hell I’d want both and convince the Mrs. to drive one. But yes this car will be in my stable for a long time. Honda at its finest! I kind of want to pick up an S2000 before prices get any higher to have a RWD option as well.

Have you had the CTR out yet or still breaking in?

FL5 has been out for a week, just trying to get through break-in mileage at this point!

Both cars are great imo, I wish I could drive the DE5 for comparison, maybe one day I’ll meet someone with one.

My biggest issue with DE5 is the 6 or 7k extra price tag, but hey if money is no issue, probably worth it.

Just think it over though, trading in the DE5 won’t lose you much, but you’ll most likely lose the tax you paid and that’s not a small amount. and you’ll pay another tax on the FL5 so the government will def love you.

I've sat in a DE5 and I imagine both drive pretty much one-to-one. The Integra exhaust sounds fine as is for a car from a conservative company like Honda. I'm glad they put that bit of character and distinction in it. The interior compared to my A spec feels a good bit more solid and you still get all the goodies like heated seats and the steering wheel.
I think the only things that made the car for me was that I appreciated the red bucket seats as well as the looks on the FL5 over the DE5. Other than that I would not have minded buying one had my FL5 order gone bad. Both cars should be cherished at a time when manufacturers are pushing for electrification and big suvs.

I love my FL5, but would’ve been thrilled with the DE5 as well. I had deposits down at two local Acura dealers, and was next in line at one of them. I could’ve had my pick of any incoming colour and likely would’ve chosen Apex Blue or Lunar Silver, to get the black interior with red stitching.

I’ve been a Type R fanboy since the 90s though, so couldn’t pass up the allocation when my Honda dealer called me with the great news. I wouldn’t fault anyone for “settling” with the ITS, or even choosing it over the CTR. Acura hit a home run with the ITS, as most professional reviews would attest to.

Got a call 2 weeks ago for a GR Corolla Championship Edition in white for $59840 plus tax. I turned it down.

Got the call from Acura last week on my choice between a silver or white DE5 at MSRP. I turned it down.

And yesterday I got the call for a Rallye Red FL5 at MSRP that's coming next month. I said yes! to that one.

I must have watched hundreds of videos, and drove the wife bananas going back and forth between the DE5 and the FL5. And after comparing both cars. Although th DE5 is only $5k more in Canada and you get the HUD, a little more HP, better sounding exhaust, better ride, better stereo, more low end torque, better warranty, more comfort features.

At the end of the day the FL5 won for me because a Type R is a Type R, it was more purpose built, and although looks are subjective I believe that the FL5 has a more timeless look for me personally.

Ya know, I have to admit it’s crossed my mind a few times whether you settled on a car, and I’m glad I never asked as it’s clear you did your research and came to your own decision. I’m certain I’ve watched all the same videos and read the same articles… not an easy task. They’re all great cars, but personal preference is huge.

That’s one heck of a story—you had your pick of the best colors in these cars (ok the GRC doesn’t really have “colors”, I’m being generous), and you ultimately get the rarest FL5 color. I believe I’ve heard that patience is rewarded… I’ve just never been patient enough to see it myself. ?

Thank you for sharing your story, I’m happy for you! Now you’ve got a month—plenty of time to order a set of TuxMats!

Agreed on this. They are both great. I have owned both and traded in my DE5 on my FL5. If you like one, you will like the other and IMO the differences are small enough to not matter given the limited number of cars Canada is going to see, just get one and enjoy.

If you are really set on the FL5 I would wait till max 2025 ... market conditions should be better anyway.. hopefully even for used ones by then... noticed over time went down from 70s to mid-high 60s ... otherwise if don't get one by 25 go for the DE5 you won't be disappointed and you are always welcome to be part of the crew ... it's actually more fun when there is a bit of diversity
