Backup plans - what's yours?

Generally the older I'm getting, buying a expensive car does not make me happy. I'd rather have the money invested or go on trips. I find that all the car I need is under 30. Paid about 23k for my GTI practically new. Has parking sensors, adaptive suspension, heated seats and a kickass stereo. All the car one needs. I always wanted a Type R but couldn't afford it in college so trying to treat myself to one... seems like its going to be much harder to get.

I’m the same. I’d rather do some Porsche driving schools, rent a Porsche and drive the Swiss Alps or Bavaria, take a Lamborghini winter driving course. The Subaru course looks awesome too. I’d rather do all that than buy a $100k car to drive 10 mph over the speed limit. Even if I still did track days I’d probably not get something that expensive or fast.

oh I have 911 goals also. I have a 20 year plan... HODL BTC, been all in since the last halving.

I’m HODLing gold and silver miners. If I’m right about those a Cayman GTS will be easy, though I’d still get the Type R.

I had that internal debate too, given the price comparison:
RS3: $60k, 0-60 in 3.3, no rear seat legroom, more econobox than nice
S5: $56k, 0-60 in 4.3, decent rear seats, much more comfortable, still fast

The first one is going to be more special and fun, but as someone in my mid-30s, I'm starting to appreciate the cush experience.

RS3 is someone that just wants to go really fast with bit of comfort. That thing will run 10's with a downpipe and a tune.

I'd take the inline 5 cylinder over a V6 any day, it just sounds amazing and special.

I like the S5 hatchback but it's too plain looking for $65k, would rather have the RS5. But neither has the inline 5.

Had a RS5, stay away if you don't like boat like feel and handling. Steering feel was 0. S5 is NOT what you think it is.

For driving enthusiasts RS3 > S4 > S5/RS5

I get what you're all saying (pro RS3 crowd). It was on my radar for a reason, but when I saw one in person, it looked like a toy. I'd be down to pay $50k for that, but $60k+ is asking too much. 5-cyl does sound awesome though!

5 cylinder makes the RS3 special. And it doesn't have the Mk8's retarded control setup.
