Man these markups are making me consider more expensive options. Anyone know what the CT4V Blackwing ADM is? Never been a caddy fan, but everyone seems to love it.
Test drove a '22 CT4 about a bit ago, just to get other options. The guy said the trim/package/accessories was about 76k MSRP iirc right. It was the only black one they had on the lot. No ADM but it was because it was basically a "leftover" and the '23s were gonna be marked up. The drive was amazing and I was very close to picking it up. My trepidation came because I've always enjoyed smaller, more agile cars, and it definitely felt like more of a muscle car. One amazing thing about it was it was SOOO QUIET in the cab when just cruising.

Honestly, if a dealership wanted 25k ADM for the FL5, I'd get the blackwing hands down if I could find it without ADM again. Obviously 76k (in that example, I think 23 might be around 80ish base) is not cheap, and even without ADM the OTD price is gonna be over 80k. The dealer also wouldnt budge below MSRP, maybe if I had a prior relationship with him, but I didn't.

Are you guys sitting on saved cash? Are you all making over 100k? Are your jobs absolutely secure?
Aside from a trade-in, I do make well over 100k and have some cash on hand. Most white-collar workers that aren't completely house-poor or financially insecure can probably afford a 50-80k car fairly easily.

I really wonder about this forum. For so many people to be still in the market for a near 60k Civic(after at minimum 5k markup + TTF). Are you guys sitting on saved cash? Are you all making over 100k? Are your jobs absolutely secure?
I have a decent chunk for down payment (10k) and my job is well over 100k. Job is secured for at least 2 years.

Honestly with rates increasing I’m probably gonna build an Exocet in cash vs buying something with a payment.

For me, I am a disabled veteran and recently had my compensation increased to the max percentage which has been a God send because that means I get a decent paycheck coming in every month until I die and Im pretty much maxed out on veteran benefits at the state and federal level. Its not the same as social security so I have no employment restrictions. Im an EMT right now but Im about to go to PA school where I can use the GI Bill and basically go to school tuition free and get an additional check for it. So no student loans.

So yeah definitely an outlier but my income and my job is secure. I can take the hit. Im also single with no gf/kids so that means all of that money is for me, myself and I ? My failing health has been a gut check to me (also seeing it with my work) so FOMO has really got to me these last 2 years especially with COVID

So I called the dealer I attempted to buy an FK8 from 1.5 years ago. (This was mid Covid during the plant shutdown which resulted in the car I had a deposit on never being built.)

Turns out they still have my information and told me I was number 1 on their list (I told them when I couldn’t get the FK8 that I’d buy the next Gen from them). Manager tells me that he is heading to a meeting and Honda is supposedly going to get them an extra FL5 because the FK8 they were supposed to get due to breaking some sales record never materialized back in 2021.

I know I talked a big game about avoiding debt but whoa boy the second they said I could get one I was ready to throw that all out the window! ?

That's pretty wild! Did they mention ADM?

Nope no markup! They weren’t charging any on the last Type R either.

However they did call back and say I’m now going to be next in line after the owner, so I’m no longer first to get one. I figured it was better not to fight it.

I’m way out of state which they said they no longer sold too, but they’ll make an exception because I’ve been trying to buy with them since before that was their policy.

Fun fact. If you follow Cameron Hill on YouTube, he documented his search in 2021 for a new FK8 at MSRP. A viewer actually recommended this dealership in a tiny town in Ohio to Cameron. Well the dealership told Cameron they sell at MSRP it’d just be a 6 month wait for the car. Cameron then decided that’s too long of a wait. Well, I called up the dealership right after I saw the view where Cameron said he didn’t want to wait and asked if theyd sell to me instead! ?

I imagine that some can definitely afford the crazy markups due to having great jobs. For the others, they will find other ways to secure the car. Back when the stimulus checks were rolling out, a lot of people would use that along with financial relief to get cars. Some might still be getting relief but the high monthly payments will catch up with them. Then you got some that do save up a crazy amount of money. Different ways to do it but only time will tell if these guys made smart decisions on paying 60k+ but it's their money so who cares.

Edit: also forgot to mention trade ins. That helps as well.

Well I drove the GLA 45 today. Engine is fun handling is ok. But man chassis feel was not the best but ya I know it’s an SUV. This one didn’t have the right rims or aero so I’m out. Not a bad package but I just couldn’t get over the look of a rebadged Jeep Compass.

10k markup looks pretty good right now On Type R. It just blows my mind the quality even in the late 90s Mercedes had (my mom bought. C class at the end of high school and was amazed at the quality.) Interior is cool but that carved out of stone thing has been gone since the early 2000s from Mercedes.

Right now other options
Lexus IS 500F
Caddy CT4 Blackwing
Mercedes CLA 45

The caddy is the top outside of type r as after the test drive I think I will have a hard time parting with a manual. Since 2007 3 new cars all manual.

ISF would be my too choice if it had a manual.

If I lived in the US I'd be all over a LEXUS iS 500F. Unfortunately the entire IS range has been discontinued in Australia due to our ridiculous Australian Design Rules and the IS not being compliant with side impact protection. I figure if it's good enough for the rest of the planet its good enough for us.

Have you thought about M2/M3, C6 Z06 (650HP), or a C63 S AMG?
