My only regret is that there is a foot and a half of snow on the ground and I can’t drive the darn thing…?

I mean mate, you have to use some sense here. Its a Type R forum lol. Most of us are here because we love this platform and want to talk with other like minded people. There are certainly a lot of Honda loyalists here too. Now if you come to the forum and almost every post is a knock on the R, what do you expect, people to cheer you lol?

I'm on other forums as well. Supra, Z, GRC. There's always people who talk negative continuously and end up getting roasted. I don't know, maybe understand the audience? i.e. on the Supra forum all the "its just a BMW" people are no longer there. Interesting right?
Opinions are different from knocks. Someone can love a platform and not necessarily be OBSESSED with it to the point where any opinion that is not of the masses is perceived as being the same as the Supra being a bmw thing.
For instance:
I think this car looks no diff in pictures than it does in person.
I think this car is amazing and I loved the FK8 so much but still don’t think it’s worth anything past MSRP.
I think the Porsche comparisons are laughable and borderline brainwash tactics to have people eat the markup.
I think calling the FK8 or FL5 a sports car is hilarious.
Now does any of that mean that I’m not gonna get one and prob at 5k over LOL hell no.
It’s a ridiculously good dialed in hot hatch. But that’s it. It’s the fanboys and paid off media controlling the market not the dealers my boys.

Interesting. I thought the car looks like traffic in pictures. But in person not at all. Gave me Cayman GT4 vibes. By that what I mean is the difference between a regular Cayman and GT4. Cayman looks meh, standard sports car and then GT4 is like wow this is something else.

I think Honda played the aggressive look of the FL5 really well. It's mature in a good way. And I know it stands out because I was cross shopping. I showed my wife the Elantra N, Golf R and she went, wait aren't those just regular cars? I thought you wanted a sports car. With the Type R, it was a different story. She spotted the FL5 before we arrived at the parking lot and I didn't even point it out!
This x1000

Mine was in the delivery bay and a woman maybe mid 50s walked up and said “that’s (the type r) really really nice, it looks so good!”. Compliments before Ive even taken delivery lol.

Finally a post with common sense.

If a random person read through some of the posts on this forum, they could be convinced the new Type R is borderline a Porsche ?

Having a contrarian view on anything around here is a crime. God forbid anyone share anything negative about this car. The snowflakes who paid $60-70k for it are probably the ultra sensitive bunch.

We all like this platform in one way or another. Otherwise, we wouldn’t be here. But there’s a fine line between liking something and fanboism on steroids.

And you’re absolutely spot on: dealers are not at fault here. Yes, they are scumbags for the most part and always will be, but we can’t fault them for inflating costs on inflated egos.

Bottom line: if fanboys weren’t lining up to pay insane ADM on Civics, dealers wouldn’t charge them.

What do you call people who purchase used FK8’s for 7k over MSRP

I think bottom line is everyone should not pay insane ADM for anything. This doesn't just plague the Civics. People are just in general willing to toss more money to get something even if it doesn't make sense. Hence why the used market is the way it is. Going to be hard to change the mentality.

Lol, conspiracy theory anyone?

To each their own and you and Loomis are entitled to your opinions. It’s what keeps people on their toes and open minded. Heck, back in the day there were a few folks that thought the world was flat, lol (ie you two saying this is not a sports car lol). But of course, in the end the facts are always going to be the facts and the FL5 matches the performance specs of the 718 cayman and Boxter at a lower cost and higher reliability, functionality and fuel economy. LOL. - but the world is flat isn’t it?!?!?

Happy New Year!!!!

I dont agree with large ADM’s and at the same time know the market is driven by supply and demand. This is a special car (likely the last ICE version) and Honda nailed it all around. That combined with the extreme cult following and rarity drive higher pricing. There are 500 in the US (which took two months just to deliver) and no sign of when the next allocation (and delivery will be). There are well over 10k orders in Japan that need to be fulfilled along with demand from other continents. Its a special and rare item. It is not a commodity. Some may wait and if production continues at pace, prices won’t change (again this car is not subject to normal market dynamics). If the US gets a shipment of 2k tomorrow you may see the adms come down a bit - its all supply and demand.

Bruh, if knowing that your “FL5 matches the performance specs of the 718 cayman and Boxter at a lower cost” on paper makes you sleep better at night, then Merry Christmas.

Until someone actually drives both cars back to back and acknowledges the Cayman is a superior performance chassis in every way imaginable, I can only conclude that their fanboism is getting the better of them.

At this rate, folks will be making Type R vs Ferrari comparisons sometime next year ?‍♂

Nobody claimed the Type R isn’t “sporty”. It’s a sports sedan/hatch or whatever you want to call it. Great at what it was designed to be: a fun and engaging grocery getter - arguably the best for the price.

Is this data backed by like YouTube? Or like is this a Doug Demuro score? A throttle house lap time? I would highly highly encourage attempting to test drive a Porsche and report back. Again comparing that to flat earth is wild. I love that you love the car but let’s pump the brakes here haha. I already said I’d contradict myself and pay 5k over ?

Ok this I can get behind in a sense is well it is a bit of supply and demand but at the end of the day there still needs to be a buyer. It’s deff the last ICE type R. Now I think that they stopped taking orders in Japan since they already had 10k orders. It would make sense they get first dibs at a high volume due the the car being mad there. We are deff the biggest market for the car. So cut orders in Japan to increase the volume to US. That’s my thought. But who knows. My serious question is this. If it meant more production and lower prices, and Honda announced another plant outside the Japan one was gonna start producing the FL5 as well. Would this
A. Sway your decision on purchase in general?
B. Would you pay the higher price then to have the one from Japan rather than the other plant, say UK?

This question goes to all and not just mbaapk

I see a lot of people think paying markup is stupid. And yes it is to be honest. But I knew I wanted it from the moment they debuted the car. I was actually dead set on buying a Nissan Z until I saw this Type R. And the Z even has a markup. Any car that has the demand is going to have a markup. The dealership knows what cars are in higher demand. But I don’t have a problem spending money on things I want. I waste money all the time on stuff I don’t even need. But this car does everything the Nissan Z, Porsche, and Corvette couldn’t do (these were the other cars I was looking at).The Type R has room for all the things I do daily. The other day I loaded an ice chest, propane tank, heater, Christmas presents, jackets, and had plenty room to spare. I bought it because it was going to make me happy, and my happiness has no price tag.

This is exactly why I can’t wait for the ITS, same car, arguably will be a much better daily and will be much more readily available as being produced in NA.
