USAA has a separate glass claims system. So technically this is not under comprehensive. Is this an error? I'm not sure if they know I'm based in CA.
I really didn't even know USAA offered that for CA-based policies. I always thought you had to just file it under comprehensive, of which you'd be subject to the deductible unlike other states like FL where it's zero out of pocket for windshield.

Hi everyone, I've got an update and it's a good one.

USAA will be covering an OEM Type R windshield in full. And it's because of the reasons I stated as to why an aftermarket windshield and an OEM Type R one are not comparable. So for anyone out there who has the same issue as me, just list out the following reasons to your insurance:

- OEM Type R windshield is lighter than both aftermarket and base model Civic windshields
- OEM Type R windshield is non-acoustic, while aftermarket and base model Civic windshields are acoustic
- OEM Type R windshield lacks IR blocking film, while aftermarket and base model Civic windshields have this film

Did you end up only being on the hook for your glass deductible?
Not quite. They're still screwing me over on labor cost. My dealer quoted $700-something in labor but they're only paying $400-something of it because that's what Safelite would do it for.

30 days and I'm still going back and forth with my insurance and the glass company who is doing the work. Had to get my agent involved this is getting out of hand.

initially, i had the same thing happen. the shop had to send an updated quote to get approved from insurance but it was all covered. just because Safelite is cheaper doesn't mean they get to not cover it.

I never posted this update. But my SA at my local dealership is amazing and he worked some numbers because he knew I was in a pinch. I ended up only paying $10 dollars additional outside of my deductible

It gets exhausting. But escalate it as high as you can. I worked my way up to a senior auditor. And he was the only one that was able to send my argument to some other team, which they would deem whether aftermarket was truly comparable to OEM. Seems like they didn’t bother doing the research because they gave the green light fairly quickly.

After being in hold for 1:47 minutes yesterday waiting to talk to a claims specialist and being put on hold 1:27 today waiting to talk to her manager. I presented my case and showed difference between OEM Fl5, OEM base model and Pilkington aftermarket. YES there's differences.
The supervisor then said there's not been a lot of issues with aftermarket glass however there are enough to grant OEM replacement.
I'm very grateful @shijima_ending posted his experience because it helped me in my experience.

I totally rather get aftermarket glass if its better than the OEM, the oem is made out of swiss cheese,. I have more pits in my 1 year and half old, 7k mile windshield than my 25 years 185k mile range rover (which actually has pilkington glass).

I honestly don't give a rats ass if the windshield is lighter, I would rather it be less prone to pits and cracks. I will definitely be PPFing the windshield after I have it replaced.

I get that, but I heard those aftermarket windshields can be finicky with the safety systems. But also some of us are just more partial towards OEM. Type R windshield is clearly different than base so I’d like to maintain that.

With that said, my windshield did have a shit ton of pitting before it eventually cracked. But such is the life of a car that spends half of its life in the canyons

they OEM glass on my Si seems to made in America which is weird but seems higher quality than OEM so I'm not complaining. not sure what happened but I'm happy with the outcome. they originally wanted to use some Chinese brand.

i'll have to take a look at my windshield and paperwork to see what they actually used.
