I'm sure there will be dealers marking them up but as of right now I have one dealer offering MSRP, and they'll be getting 4 allocations. I have another dealer offering one at $1k over which I'm sure with pricing not landing with people today they'll cave into msrp. I really don't think we will see the same scenario with this car like we're seeing with the FL5 as far as mark ups go.

Agree. Some will place an ADM on the ITS, some won't. The dealerships in my area were on either side of the fence. Some mentioned outright they would mark the cars up and some said they would not. Super small sample size, but I believe this bears out as people across the country are reporting the same. As I've experienced in the past, you won't really know the pricing situation until these cars hit the lots. We will all find out soon enough.
On a related note, I've read and heard, several times, a theory that the release of the ITS will create a chilling effect for the demand of the FL5, thus bringing ADMs down significantly. While there are similarities between the two vehicles, it's not a 1:1. I don't see an instance where market equilibrium will be reached on the FL5 in the near term.

No. The ITS being already $7100 more than the MSRP of a CTR, means there really isn’t a whole lot of room for ADM. $1k? $2k? Yeah, I can see that happening or forced accessory/protection packages. $5k+ ADM? Nope. Why? Because there are other good options at ~$60k. Only the very few Integra diehards would pay close to $60k for one, but that opens the door to just buying a CTR for $10k+ ADM. Things spiral quickly and no longer make any sense with respect to ITS + ADM.
I think the only ADM chilling effect that could happen with the FL5 is that $10k+ won’t be as common, while $5k will hold.

The idea that once you cross a certain dollar threshold, other vehicles come into the consideration set is presumptive. What I mean by that is, if you're narrowly focused on one car, it doesn't matter what other cars you can get for "$X,XXX more". A prospective CTR buyer who was facing a $10K ADM likely wouldn't all the sudden start cross shopping a BMW M340i. The decisioning is: 1) You pay the ADM; 2) Not pay it and hold out hope for a lower ADM; or 3) Conclude your pursuit of a new vehicle.

The idea that people will either hold out or not buy anything is presumptive too, right? I guess my perspective is that “most” consumers, when they have it in their head that they’re really ready for a new car, they will buy one of their top 3 choices. This is sort of excluding diehards who will only accept 1 car. I agree with you in those specific cases. Are there truly that many who would rather pass on buying a car altogether if they can’t get 1 specific car? I don’t think so, though I have no data to back up my opinion.

Unfortunately, I think the opposite is true. I think coming across a 5K ADM is a thing of the past now on the CTR, dealers will hold over you head exclusivity, build location, etc., not to add availability, given that most dealers get, at most, 3 CTR's a year, my local Acura alone is receiving 6 allocations of the ITS, to not come lower than the ITS price for a new Type R.
Lets face it, who ever is in the market for a Type R considers the ITS the consolation price, I sure did prior to getting my FL5, if someone puts on the table an ADM that aligns with the ITS current price on a CTR, it can be attractive to any buyer truly set on getting one. Only time will tell for now but definitely a shocker from Acura.

It's not presumptive at all because I wasn't speaking in absolutes. I positioned the consumer behavior as "likely". Some may look at other options, some may not but the prevailing narrative around ADMs pushing the CTR into a higher price point almost always comes back to the same talk track: "At $XX,XXX you can buy (insert random new or used vehicles)". That statement and permutations of it supports the idea that everyone is willing to look at other vehicles when the price starts to climb and I don't believe that to be true.
I don't have data either but I can affirmatively count at least one person (me) who would have purchased nothing at all if I was unable to find a CTR on my terms.

This describes my situation. My choices have pretty much always been either 1. a new FL5, 2. a new Ford Maverick, or 3. something used (and entirely different — used P-Car, used Land Cruiser, used Lexus, etc.). Other than the Maverick (which is also impossible to find for MSRP and isn’t remotely similar to a Type R) I am NOT cross-shopping the Type R against other new vehicles. I can’t be the only one in this boat.

I wasn’t speaking in absolutes either, but I guess I can understand why you took it that way. Rarely are there absolutes in anything, so I didn’t get detailed with that point.
I was also all-in on getting a CTR too, as soon as pics of it started showing up. My mind was made then and there. HOWEVER, I am also lucky to have gotten my car on good terms and not be in the unfortunate searching/hoping/wishing boat many folks are in now. If I was in that boat, I don’t know, would I cross shop other cars? It’s really hard to say. It’s very situational and highly dependent on one’s local market. This is all theoretical…but, I guess I can see people getting really tired of the rat race in some parts of the country. In many of the conversations in this forum, folks have had that attitude. Did they actually settle for an Elantra N or Golf R or decide to wait for the ITS or was it all just blah blah words and no action? I tend to believe it’s a mix of all the above. Some will hold for an FL5 and others just won’t.

I really hope so. I just remember lots of dealers saying the same about the FL5 and switched up for some ADM once they started coming in...
Let's see if they follow through. I don't want to be the one who says I told you so. I hope you end up telling me that instead.
