I hate seeing posts about Type R's getting stolen. Here are a few good/inexpensive products to keep your car safe!

I am thinking of getting the Cobb AccessPort

But this means that I'll have to remove my VTT OBD lock

Any ideas how to protect both the car and the AccessPort from being stolen?

The Accessport can only be stolen if you leave it in the car. There's no need to permanently install it or leave it in the car. In my experience, once you flash the car you won't use the device all that much. It spends most of its time in a closet, in the box in my home office along with the other Accessport I have.

I know that it only needs to be connected when flashing, but that it also has buttons, displays, etc... so I assumed that there is some advantage to keeping it in the car while driving...

Obviously wha you suggested would be the best approach.

meanwhile, I did a quick search and found this product:

https://www.dummyobd.com/shop/honda...tion/?attribute_pa_honda-models=civic-10-2016

Thinking out loud: one way to mess with the bad guys and slow them down would be to put my VTT OBD lock on the dummy port, to make them think it is the real port, then relocate the real port elsewhere, and hide the AccessPort in the glove compartment when parked.

but first I need to pull the trigger on the AccessPort... very itchy trigger finger

Understood. I've seen many photos of the AP mounted in the car, but I've never used the device in that way. If I'm not datalogging, reading/clearing a DTC, or flashing, the device is not in the car. And those activities account for 2% of the time.

When you buy, look for one on the secondary market for as cheap as possible. There's zero value in buying the device new. Just make certain you factor in the $200 unlock fee if buying used and ensure it's unmarried.

News article about sophisticated thieves:

https://www.cbsnews.com/losangeles/news/orange-county-new-car-theft-methods-warning/

"They stand outside your house, collect the signal ... send it to their partner in crime, who's standing next to your car," said Anaheim Police Department Sergeant Matt Sutter. "Unlocks the door with that signal, gets in and starts the car and drives away."

In order to prevent becoming a victim, he says that people should store their key fobs in signal-blocking bags or leave them far away from doors or windows.

Along with that method, Sutter also says that thieves are now breaking into cars by using computer tablets that are meant for locksmiths. He says that they plug the tablet into the car's computer system, which allows them to reprogram the vehicle before they push start it and drive away.
I already have the two products mentioned above, though I got a bit lax putting the key fob into the faraday bag, not any more...

I hate this happened to Paul. I've watched a few of his videos and remember when he was searching for an FL5. Stay safe out there fellas.

I use the Pedal Commander throttle controller....not so much for the car, but a nice anti theft as you can, for $10, have it lock out the accelerator. It'll start, but won't go anywhere! :)

Damn that sucks!
Sounds like Brother did not do one single thing to prevent his FL5 from being stolen. Never said how long the car was gone either.
We should not have to do anything, but in this day and age, WE HAVE TO!!

Just saw another one on YouTube his Type R was stolen in Cali :( and found although no major damage interior looked like a hurricane went through it and ripped the plastic cover above the mirror off to gain access to something and who knows how bad they beat on it driving around. More then likely used a code grabber for the remote I think is what he thought. Also the title will show now that it was stolen and recovered.

Man that sucks. I had someone break in but not successfully start mine and it took about 6 months for it to feel like mine again. I cleaned out that interior like I was the Dexter of car cleaning lol. I now have an old school steering lock, faraday box and an expensive OBD lock.
