Apologies if this was already determined and documented. I tried searching this forum and other sources and couldn’t find a straight answer, some say it does some say it makes it a lot quieter.

Has anyone actually tested it? I recently purchased the car and trying to figure out whether I need to disconnect the module. I really don’t want to because I will inevitably scratch my interior. Like most people I hate the fake engine noise and plan to purchase exhaust very soon.

Thanks in advance.

The only known way to make 100% sure it is turned off is to disconnect it.

With that said, I don’t hear it in Comfort (Engine Sound) mode…so I’ve left it connected. Is it possible it is still making some sounds? Yes. But if you don’t notice it, does it matter? Personally, the answer no.

Same as above. It's hard to tell, but I don't think the synthetic sound is on in Comfort. It's most prominent and noticeable on downshifts, and in Comfort, I'm not hearing much of anything that I believe to be fake. As @TypeRD mentioned, if you want to be certain just unplug it.

I had an FK8 with fake sound before. You could still here in in comfort mode
On the FL5, in Comfort, I personally can't hear it.

Thanks all. Very annoying that Honda would not make it clear or easy to turn this off. My only complaint about the car all revolves around the sounds it makes and doesn’t make. Otherwise it’s near perfect.

I recall how drastically unplugging the sound module and installing a catback transformed my 2022 BRZ.

I guess I will wait to install the exhaust and then will decide if I with to remove the module.

I think the context for this is that in Japan there are some restrictions regarding how loud cars can be. The fake sound is primarily to let you hear something, especially when driving on the track. But I could be very wrong lol.

i never really noticed it much. it doesn't sound "synthetic" to me. sounds like the engine should.
In comfort mode or R mode? In comfort I agree, but in R it sounds very synthetic to me.

R is loud so you can hear it with a helmet on the track.

I wish they would have worked with a game company like Polyphony or Turn10 to do the audio for them in R mode. Gran Turismo and Forza sound way better.

I don't find the fake sounds so bad. In my '03 M240i I thought they were terrible. In my CTR, I have engine noise set to "sport". I like hearing the downshifts even if they're fake. I won't be changing the exhaust so I will live with the sound module.

Really hoping you are right. Don’t want to start taking dash apart on a brand new car that I was hunting for a year for.
