If the plan is to run higher octane fuel often ethanol is the move. It's readily accessible for most in North America and it's similar or lower cost than 91/93 octane pump gas.

Stock fuel system isn’t appropriately sized for ethanol.

Yes, I am aware. Upgraded hardware would be necessary (fuel pump, fuel lines, injectors, etc.).

@Hondata - where would a Canadian FL5 running Petro-Canada 94 octane fuel fit into the Hondata maps - would we run a 93 map? Is there a 94 map for Canucks? I can't recall the ethanol content in their 94...

Thx

You would run a 93 map. You then have the option of custom tuning. The Canadian ECU is the same as the US. Our guess is that the 94 Octane would have 10% ethanol.

Any acknowledgement of receipt from your part?
FedEx shows my FL5 ECU delivered yesterday (April 13) at 10:00 AM.
How can I follow up specifically on the status of the ECU? Have not been billed either. Thanks!
If it arrived yesterday I would expect it to ship today. (That is what we experienced.) I'd expect to be billed today as well.

Can the unlock be detected? If you need to service the vehicle at a dealership what needs to be done?

So I’m pretty dumb to this sort of tuning so my question is….

Is the ecu attached to the VIN of the vehicle, is it possible to flash an ECU and buy another stock one for dealership purposes?

flame away…

I was thinking the same thing. Probably would need to send both so they could be cloned if there is something unique. Wonder how much a second ECU is

Usually manufacturers have parts of data stored in the TCU now, all Honda has to do is see that the turbo boost went above the stock configuration number and its over. I also bet you they can see when the ECU has been "swapped" back and forth.

There's no beating Honda/Porsche/BMW/etc in terms of tunes now and they all usually send out the full car diagnostics back to HQ from the dealer for any large warranty claims before they are approved.

Honda cannot tell that the ECU has been jailbroken and previously reflashed. They can tell if it currently has a non factory flash in it. There is no reflash counter or record of CVNs like other vehicles.

We have always advocated for being upfront with the Honda dealer about what you have done to your vehicle, including reflashing the ECU. Many Honda dealers support the aftermarket, including selling Hondata products.
