I'm in line for an FL5, but a few years ago I needed to transport my S2000 from VA to FL, while I drove an SUV south with two dogs. After a lot of research (e.g., Consumer Affairs, U.S. Dept. Transportation, etc.), I went with a private carrier (Sherpa out of Charlotte, NC) that reportedly had experience with exotic vehicles. I asked for an enclosed trailer and a free quote. When the driver arrived (on time) it was loaded onto a truck with a couple of Corvettes, a Ferrari, and a vintage '57 T-Bird. It arrived on time (about a week later) and in perfect condition. I also insured it for "full value," cleaned out all personal items, filled it with just a quarter-tank of gas, removed the whip antenna, recorded the mileage, took copious photos, asked for fixed-price guarantee, and a firm delivery window. The only (minor) problem I had was that the driver would not come down the road leading to our street because his information said "Large trucks not allowed." Larger moving trucks, etc. use it/ignore it all of the time. So, while I respected the driver's adherence to his protocol, I had to walk several miles to a large mall parking lot where he met me and unloaded the S2000. Overall, excellent service, but very expensive. Do your homework and hope this helps.Potentially working with a dealer that is out of state for a Rallye red they have on the lot. It is a large distance away, almost 2k miles. What would you guys suggest in terms of tranporting it? I could always fly out, but would it make more sense to transport it via truck? If I do that would you suggest open or enclosed?
