I Recently had the pleasure to shoot a video with Ben Thorn from Gears and Gasoline to tune his FL5 Civic Type R. It was quite an experience for me as I've never been on camera like this before , but I think it turned out great.

I'm glad that Ben is enjoying the large increase in power after custom tuning via COBB Tuning Accessport. This really is a good tuning platform for these cars that a lot of people sleep on.

We were able to pick up over 50whp compared to the previous dyno tune that the car came in on.
I am Looking forward to hopefully seeing this car on track again soon, possibly sharing the track with me in my FL5!

Shoot me a PM for all your FL5/DE5 needs. From parts and installs to custom tuning, I am here to help!

- Yes we offer E tuning/ Remote tuning for these cars. I get asked this quite frequently. It is honestly very easy to do using the Cobb Accessport. I'd venture to say I've tuned more of these on Cobb than anyone else so far.

I've certainly been very happy with my car with the @JST Performance Cobb tuning package! I had Brian tune it last year with only cooling upgrades as one of the first Cobb customer cars that he did, and have worked with Brian over the last year to develop my car into a very capable track car without sacrificing any street drivability.

Over the last year, I managed to win Sport 3 at 2024 TT Nationals, and then for 2025 I developed the car into a mid-prep Gridlife Street car, where I managed a lap record at Mid-Ohio and a podium at ABCC, followed by a podium in Max 4 (as a very under-prepared car) at 2025 TT Nationals, all while driving the car to every event (a total of 7 competitive weekends within the last year) without a hiccup! I really can't say enough good things about the tuning!

Decided to try something different and switch from Hondata to the Accessport. (both Jester and Phearable staged tunes). Trying the cobb mainly for Carb Certification (i know CA sucks).

Luckily didn't have to unlock the ecu again. Brian worked with cobb to work out some bugs in the firmware that wasn't recognizing my ecu as unlocked, but got it to work and i'm going through the tuning process with him now 4 revisions so far and each one can feel a difference.

His response times are quick and the process is pretty easy, looking forward to finish getting it dialed in and enjoying on track next month.

What are the differences between a Cobb versus hondata tune? Imo if ktuner could do the same as either, I'd go with that instead haha

Power-wise you can get about the same out of either setup. Cobb's AP is a much nicer and easier to use unit vs. Hondata with a lot more capability IMO, and the unlock process is super simple (@JST Performance can do the unlock now on-site, or Cobb automatically provides an overnight box and shipping to send it to them - this is included in the regular price and you'll probably have it back the 2nd business day). The only real "disadvantage" with Cobb is they are EPA-compliant, so you can't turn off o2 CELs, and they also don't have flex fuel working yet (although you can do a fixed-content ethanol blend which I've done).
