Completely understand which is why I said I totally agree with your assessment. I just think it's difficult to assert how much it's truly worth from one's opinion given the accessibility you may have over others to get MSRP.The original Type R was like 38k and that was a stretch for what this car is. Now they moved it up closer to 45k for largely a car that does not cost them anymore to make. If you start selling this for over 50k with markup the car competes with more premium models that are in almost every single metric better sports cars (removing Honda fanboyism out of it).
Thats where I said, its not worth more than MSRP because it is already a stretch, and objectively even at 45k unless you are a Honda fan most normal car enthusiats would be laugh at that. I completely get it.
The manual supra on good tires would send this car back in time, the Camaro SS 1LE would obliterate it, the Z on real tires would be engaging in similar ways and even the Gr86 with just suspension and tires will run faster laps for far less money, feel engaging to drive. Even the Elantra N for 38k is almost identical in performance.
Im in a rare spot to have been on track/street to know. I still chose the Type R because I am some kind of twisted Honda fan. It makes almost no rational sense.
However a fair question I suppose I'd ask is, in your completely honest and hopefully unbiased opinion, would you have paid more? Hypothetically let's say MSRP was 47k, or 50k, or 53k. Do you talk yourself out of paying more than 44k because that's what MSRP is? Or because you genuinely believe that's the MAX price? If you didn't have access to MSRP only would you have paid any kind of markup? 2k? 5k? You said it isn't worth more and I think many people believe that about a lot of things they buy, but that doesn't stop them from paying more. If you want it bad enough, you'll pay.
I certainly don't mean to overcomplicate the question but I think it's important to be transparent especially for you. People truly value your opinion but it'd be hard to believe you truly would feel that way about pricing when you had the opportunity to especially get MSRP.
And please understand, I'm not trying to discredit your review or opinion in any way. I think you still make very valuable content! I'd like to think I'm asking questions about the price that others may also have. I also may be the only one who cares, idk.
