So I have been wanting to know what this would sound like on our Type-Rs. "But why on a stock turbo?" you ask.
Well i dont want to tune my car just yet and I dont see myself upgrading the turbo even when i do get to tune it, so why not have some sweet noise inbetween now and then.
I bought a secondhand FL5 turbo and had the mod done while i could still drive my car around. Finally got around doing the swap.
Its not easy like alot of the other guys where they can just remove the intake, a handfull of 10mm botls and the compressor pops off. No, us Honda guys have to remove the whole damn turbo to be able to access the large circlip that holds the compressor on which means dropping coolant lines, oil, dumpety and associated hardware just to pull the whole turbo off.
Took a good few hours, BUT im more than happy with the sound, not obnoxiously loud possibly due to the fact we have a meter or so of piping plus the filter before the turbo, unlike many other brands of cars that can just bolt the filter straight to the turbo.
I only had my passenger window down approx 2" (50mm), drivers side window was fully up, so considering there wasnt much exposure to outside noise, it sounded pretty good in the clip. Pretty noisy road though so that distorted the sound a little compared to a smoother
section of road.
I would have liked to hear what its like outside the car with a driveby, but someone bailed on me so was flying solo.
I now had my original turbo done (as it has sligtly less kms on it than the other one) and selling this one complete ready to bolt in, if anyone's interested hit me up in DM. Also bought two PRL turbo gasket sets, only used one so have a spare to sell aswell.
YT Thumbnail shows my original car turbo (left) and the FL5 turbo i bought and had the mod done while i could still drive the car.
Car now has my original turbo back on with T51R mod done, but the sound clip below is of the spare i FL5 turbo bought.
