I suspect you will end up swapping to the tire I recommended earlier...the DWS06+. ;)

I'll be very curious to hear how you enjoy the car with those tires + damping.

Thanks!

Are you running those tires on your Type R?

Would be awesome if you can take some DB reading and audio recordings at 70 and 75 mph

Already did. ;)

I did a quick test using the same app yesterday.

At a steady state 70 mph (cruise) on a flat, smooth, relatively quiet highway surface I recorded a max of 70.9 dB and average of 68.6 dB.

Since I haven't seen it mentioned yet, this is with the fake exhaust noise disabled.

Yeah. German cars are good at dampening road noise but they are heavy and not particularly engaging. The CTR might be noisy but so is any dedicated track car. I’d encourage you to try and see it as part of its charm rather that just an annoyance. Most fun car I’ve ever driven was a Lotus Elise and damn that was noisy but the connection to the car was so high. The CTR will also be great for long term ownership. Most German cars get expensive and unreliable after 5 years.

I agree on most your points, but unfortunately, I have Tinnitus, and once this car triggers my tinnitus, my ears ring for like 2-3 weeks straight. I drove the M2, and agree, it was not as engaging. My Alfa 4c was extremely engaging.. but it blew out a certain frequency, and once you loose those frequencies - damage your hearing, there is no way to get it back. I don't wish that torture on anyone, even my worst enemy. Having a loud consistent gunshot sound in your head and migraines all day, was the absolute worst event of my life. Had to sell the Alfa, and it took 2 years to somewhat heal, and settle down.

That said, after all the sound proofing in the doors, trunk and wheel wells.

The CTR now feels much better for me and it was a blast at Laguna Seca in Type R mode.

What I did notice, is I can drive it in Type R mode now, and it's not as bouncy, and I can't figure out, if it's the added weight 60-70lbs or something with the chassis dampening

I've started the floor project, stay tuned fellas.

Will it get even better in sound dampening, or be a waste of time/money?

Let's find out..

Here's a guy that did his entire floor, and didn't get much in results. He hasn't done the doors and wheel wells.

Wow, I'm excited to see the results. It is odd that they didn't put anyting there. I know they were going for light weight but surely there's a light weight product they could have used in the floor. I guess on smooth roads in Japan it's not a big deal. For the rest of the world with coarse gravel roads it is a big deal. Definitely take your point about long term effects of the road noise. I'm definitely glad I did the doors but the floor is hopefully going to make a huge difference.

Just took an Uber to the airport, 2024 Tesla model 3 very quiet, very little tire noise, driving on a newly paved like glass road at 65mph — and as a baseline on my drive these are on my same iPhone 13mini—

Looks like someone else in a honda CR-Z deadened front foot wells and got excellent results. 7 DB in the foot well is a lot!

I'm in Singapore this week, and have really been in and out of a lot of cabs, and it seems the Honda's HRVs really transmit a considerable amount of road noise through the rear wheel arches vs the Priuses, and Electric Hyundai's. Seems like the other manufacturers are handling this much better than low end Honda's economy cars. I know the Honda CRV doesn't transmit this much noise.

I have some ideas on how to improve on the sound deadening for the Type R when I return. I think the floor will make a considerable difference. Finger's crossed.

Great Video on Materials - You can find similar materials in the USA. I'll have a bit more in-depth explanation of my learnings after completing the floor.
