For sure, the Type R does not appreciate very short trips. That is where mileage really sucks.
But once you have driven at least 5-10 miles the mpg climbs dramatically.

This looks promising for FL5 mileage. At least as good, maybe better than what I get out of my FK8.
Which is about 27 combined mpg, and 30-32 on a single trip without hard pulls or too much stop and go. But I have never seen 40 mpg, or even 35. Whereas the 10th gen SI averaged more like 34 + combined and I saw mid - 40's and better on some single trips. Thinking the differential from SI to Type R will hold for the 11th gen as well.

Why does Honda kick most ICE competitors to the pump? Because engine company.

I've only driven an FL5 once, and this is what I got:
fl5-trip.jpg

Mostly cruising on the freeway, with some sporty driving on twisty roads, and a WOT run from 2nd gear through to 3rd.

I came away thinking 40 MPG is doable if just cruising. I also noticed that fuel consumption at WOT is very high, which makes sense for such a powerful turbo car.
This is insane.

I tried to do good and I couldn't come close to this. You cheat.

This was just one trip for about 15 miles but keeping the car around 55-60, it can easily get mid to higher 30's. On my usual commute if it's bumper to bumper I can get about 27 and my average in this tank is 29. I was able to go into work later than usual so I didn't have to stop and could maintain a steady speed.

OK, I did a 400mi road trip last weekend and managed 25mpg. Not bad considering the speeds I was driving. My "MPG rating" is 18/25 overall over 3k miles.

Honda rates it at 22 City/28 Highway btw, considering my driving style... no shock to me I'm off the pace.

Car needs a bigger gas tank by 2-5 gal IMO, but I doubt that it was feasible due to space, cost, or safety/testing. It's one of the few real complaints I have is that the range is about 200miles before it's time to start looking.

Yep. Fuel capacity is the major issue I have. Range anxiety on an ICE vehicle..
Disappointed since it does have its own P/N for the fuel tank.
