I took this picture to highlight the piece that was rattling during heavy bass. I noticed these ripples in the sheet metal. Is this normal? What would cause this? Is this just from the manufacturing process or is it damaged? Ignore the red circle.

I think that's a defect for sure. I wouldn't be too concerned about it in this location as that part was likely inspected and approved. I work for a company that gets in some stamped parts and depending on the piece we accept with defects if it isn't a structural piece, and it isn't customer facing. In thinner pieces, especially if curved you see it from time to time.

someone on another forum said there were ripples in their car too. So maybe it's just how it's manufactured.

I was going to update to say that it could be very common on that part so even though it's a 'defect' it was approved overall by QA and lots of people could see it if they took off some of the trunk panels. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

I have seen this sort of thing on inner body stampings of many vehicles. For that geometry stamping (deep drawn well) in that location, it's very likely normal and they just don't need it to be any better. I am sure you can find similar ripples in other locations on the car's inner body stampings.
