For the people running the PRL. Can someone explain to me the benefit of a PRL cold air intake. Its been show time and again that the mod by itself does not create any Hp gain. How about temperature reduction? Does it help with this? I see that it creates a louder induction noise, but I was hoping PRL could show the benefits of these mods by itself. The big intercooler is another example, but that can be another thread.

I'm sure others much smarter than I will chime in, but the biggest benefit of an intercooler will be that it helps to delay the onset of heat soak. With heat soak comes a decrease in overall efficiency, and therefore less available power. In hotter climates this is especially useful. So it may not lead to extra HP directly, but will allow you to access power more consistently under hotter conditions

I've noticed I keep IAT1 around 10 degrees above ambient when driving, and I see it drop pretty rapidly when accelerating as well.

I think its going to be hard to say as the PRL HVI is not out yet.

It can easily create HP and will really see a benefit once you have a higher boost reflash or turbo swap. Theres some details about the intake in their blog post. In a YT vid I saw recently the stock intake becomes a noticeable restriction above 350-375hp mark and is really being choked at 400hp.

You summed it up very well! It just creates a more desirable environment for the ecu to not pull power so more consistent or just being able to not reduce timing.

So with this we just have to wait on testing to see if there are any benefits. The most challenging part of designing an intake are 2 things. Maintain or improve air intake temperatures, which is very hard to beat the oem box they do a great job of reducing it as much as possible within design constraints.

The other part is how well the intake flows and how much pre turbo inlet pressure it can reduce. Think of it this way, the less effort the turbo has to do to suck in air the more efficient it becomes thus creating the opportunity to make more power with tuning. If you are keeping the car stock software wise I would not do a intake.

But then you don't get to hear the hiss and blow? Intakes are all about making good sounds.
Yeah that is the downside sadly. If you want the sound you could do it no problem. Or if they come out with a hybrid bpv could also work. I went with the HKS since I wanted that classic bov sound.

But if intake temps get affected negatively I would pass on it. Hopefully they can do a good snorkel to come out of the grill to get better airflow into the intake box.

The first mod I did was the K&N filter or you can do the sprint filter. Either drop in replacement in the stock air box really increases the intake and recirculating valve noise.

I just found that velossatech makes a intake snorkel for the Si. But don’t know if it would work for the Type R.
