I'm going to try and keep my Fl5 near mint with low miles. So I would like to get an older civic maybe prelude or accord. Any advice on which year or model? Would like to try one of those high revving engines I'm always hearing about. Just not sure what specific model it would be. Thinking between 5k-10k something that would be fun to drive but wouldn't worry about every dirt road/bug guts/shopping carts. The oldest I think I would want something like a 2000 SI

I'd say the sweet spot is perhaps an 8th or 9th gen Civic.

The EM1 is kind of a classic now. Very hard to find a clean rust-free one in the Northeast (your byline says CT). OEM parts availability is poor, particularly body and interior parts. Passive safety is a far cry from modern standards as well.

Thanks all, exactly the info I'm looking for, that 8th gen europe only hatch looks awesome.

I'll just start searching around for one and go test drive a few. Does the 6th gen through 9th gen all redline around 8k?

I had an ‘09 Si for almost 14 years. Can’t go wrong with the K20 nor K24. Don’t forget the RSX and TSX, tho the former is probably impossible to find in decent shape. Preludes in good shape are hard to find too. My friend had a 97 Prelude when we were back in college. Beautiful car design that I still admire any time I see one (well…if it hasn’t received the Auto Zone treatment). The engine in the Prelude has the absolute best sound of any high revving Honda 4 cylinder I’ve ever heard. S2000 is a very close 2nd in terms of sound. Finding parts for a Prelude may be pretty difficult and expensive, though. They were always semi-rare cars. The “problem” is that they were expensive at the time and somewhat of a niche car.

Good luck finding a 6th gen Si for cheap. You can probably find a 6th gen hatch with no AC and a swap for less than 10.

Just drive the FL5 buddy. That's what it's made to do. Why spend hard earned $ on it just to park it away? It's a 4 seat hatchback!
