"Hey everyone, is anyone else dealing with oil leak issues on their FL5?

I noticed a leak recently and took it to the dealer; they diagnosed it as a faulty valve cover gasket and replaced it. However, after driving it for a bit, I inspected the bay and still found oil on the crankcase. I wiped it down and checked again today (one week later), and the oil is back.
The car only has 2,000 miles on it. Has anyone had a similar leak that turned out to be something other than the valve cover? Trying to gather some info before I head back to the service department.

I’ve heard the VCG leak isn’t uncommon. I’d say either your dealership botched the repair (also not uncommon), or they misdiagnosed it in the first place. Sounds like you should take it back to them or another dealership.

I did see one post where the valve cover itself had failed

When I called to let them know that it is still leaking. They said its possible the valve cover.

Seems like the crank case to me, but I will leave it to the experts.

Should be bringing it back this week

Expert is a stretch in the automotive world lol, even Honda master-techs are just troubleshooting at the end of the day.

Just make sure you advocate for yourself, and if the problem keeps coming back, threaten lemon law.

Mine had an oil leak at 4000 miles. Turned out to be a defect in the casting of the oil pan, replaced under warranty. Not sure if it’s same as yours, but oil was dripping down to drain plug and RMM.

This seems more like it to me, as when I spray off the bolt the oil comes back

If that’s the case, should have zero issues with warranty replacement. My service advisor is a car guy so he’s not concerned about mods so much.. it was a breeze. Dealership had it for two days- brand new oil pan and been good since.

Stuff like this is so unlike Honda! At least in my experience with the older generations.
