Model Year 2025 Civic Type R FL5 Shipments from Japan

Take this with a grain of salt, but was chatting with my SA, who previously nailed the FK8 LE release and the FL5 release timeline. He indicated that 2025 will indeed be the last year for the FL5.

What’s more interesting though is that he said the DE5 will continue for at least another year or two.

Again, all speculation until we get official word, but interesting nonetheless.

Sounds about right. Japanese forums have been rumoring that Japan factory will cease production in Spring 2026 in Japan. Thus the introduction of "racing black edition" to quickly finish any backorders that have been piling up since Jan 2023. They mentioned the "racing black edition" is only available for existing backorders to fast track the queue. Apparently the black interior is from a different supplier. We will see, but I do believe your SA.

It looks like the drop off was late August - early September for 2024.

In place of the FL5s, I'm starting to see a lot more FL4s inbound (Civic Hatchback Hybrid).

The inbound FL4s are Yori, Saitama, Japan-built (vins start with JHMFL4)
The FL4s currently on dealer lots are Greensburg, Indiana, US-built (vins start with 19XFL4)

Is there any way to know exactly which ship a car came over on, if the VIN range goes across two ships? Mine happens to fall in between two ships on the range

Interesting. I thought the FL4s here in North America were made exclusively in Indiana.

If I had to guess, I assume the Saitama plant is winding down or taking a break on FL5 production and started the FL4 production. The low sequence number for JDM FL4 vins suggests they've just begun production in Japan. Not sure if that means Indiana will continue to produce in parallel or shifted completely to Japan for FL4. Again, just assumptions. I have no sources and don't know anything about the future of FL5 production other than what's scheduled to come to port.

It's surprising to me Honda continues to import them as they lost money on tariffs selling at MSRP. I think almost all the Honda sold in USA are made in US or Canada and rarely any new Honda VIN starts with J but FL5.

It's because they've made deals now about the tariffs. Dealers won't be passing any cost onto to the consumers either if there are any at all.
