I’ve been waiting for it to happen, and it finally has! Does anyone know if the factory replacements are any better? I’m wondering if I should just spend the money on an aftermarket reservoir. If I do go aftermarket, what is the recommended brand these days?

The factory replacement is no better. There are plenty of aftermarket options. I went with the Mishimoto expansion tank and it works well for me. My OEM tank failed within the first year ...

What I would do is have them replace the factory one under warranty. Then replace it with an upgraded one. You’ll at least have a functional one on hand if you ever decide to revert back to stock for some reason.

I like the one from Origin. Looks very OEM but fully machined aluminum.

This is the move.

Yeah, that’s what I figured.

That’s a great idea. On the other hand, I’m hoping to avoid the dealership monkeys. I was going to try and see if my dealership would just give me the part so I can replace it myself, but I doubt they’d go for that.

I tried the the "can you give me the part" under warranty, but they weren't having it so I let them replace it and then I installed the aftermarket one. And the dealership monkeys didn't have the decency the clean up my engine bay that had coolant blown all over the place....

Yeah, that doesn’t surprise me. It’s as easy as just quickly rinsing the coolant off with a little water, but when you are paid book time, I guess every minute counts.

Unfortunately you will definitely have to deal with the dealership monkeys for your warranty replacement but in my obviously biased opinion the Origin is a solid “never have to think about it again” option

I have the PRL and I am happy with it. It was on sale and got it for a good price otherwise I would have went Mishimoto. I would say get any solid 1 piece unit, they will all be better than the factory piece.

Thanks for the replies, everyone! I just ordered the Mishimoto tank from Amazon. It seems like a good choice from the reviews, and it’s less expensive than most of the other offerings. It’s not the prettiest, but that’s not a big concern for me. Hopefully it’ll be here by Sunday as claimed🤞.

To avoid dealer just buy a new OEM tank. Probably pretty cheap online.

If Honda doesn't get enough warranty claims, they'll never fix the tank design.

The coolant tank is an easy swap. I was more concerned with the steering rack fix, but it turned out fine for me.

I'd like to install a metal tank, since it's my forever car and plastic eventually fails. However, the sight glass seals on these might fail.

PRL had a sight glass leaking issue at first, but the sight glass was user installed. The sight glass now comes pre-installed and I haven't heard of any issues since recently.

Honda will never fix this tank. Not at he end of the production of these cars.

Mishimoto FTW. the minimalist look is great.
Did this before it decided to fail. Just be sure to flush it a bit before the install. I noticed some shavings inside before I installed it.
