JST FL5 goes back on the Dyno!

This morning a customer had to reschedule, and the weather is great, So I decided to put my FL5 on the dyno to see how things look and where its sitting at.

The most this car has made on the dyno was 512Whp back earlier this year. However with a lot of improvements to the COBB Tuning software and the addition of the new Cobb Intake and FMIC, The car made 526whp on the very first pull. I had retuned the car on the street for the new parts, but this is the first time I've put it on the dyno like this. The car could make more, but since its stock engine/ trans/clutch, I don't really see a reason to push it further. It already makes 240WHP over stock haha.

Did 3 pulls and the logs showed no changes needed, so the car is back off the Dyno already. Can't as for much more than that!

BTW we are doing a sale on all Cobb Parts, as well as Cobb Accessports, Jailbreaks/Unlocks, and Custom tuning right now. We can do the unlock/ jailbreak in-house at our shop as well. Shoot me a PM if you have any questions!

I come from the STI world where COBB was the best choice for tuning, but after green speed everything started changing. How does COBB differ from HONDATA when it comes to cattless or non emission compliant mods? I know turners are no longer able to turn those parameters off. Is there any reason to chose COBB over HONDATA? I just about the entire COBB catalog on my STI so I'm very familiar with them.

If you are used to using the AP already, this would be a very straight forward experience for you.

My STI is my track car that is going to stand alone asap, but for a mild street car thats a weekend worrier in autox or track sessions. I feel COBB would be an excellent option.

Even if you wanted to track it, cobb is a freat option.

Our car and John Laughlins FL5s are some of the fastest FL5 track cars around, and both run Cobb and our custom tuning of course.

Would you have to jail break the ECU to use an AP or does the marrying process bypass that? I only have experience with tuning on the EJ platform so apologize for my ignorance. Honda is a new realm for me and I'm looking forward to learning as much as possible.

Catless would be a potential problem (if you care about a CEL) but flex is not - while the tune can't (yet) adjust for ethanol content, you can certainly be tuned for a specific ethanol content. @JST Performance tuned my car for e30 on stock injectors and later on e40 on XDI HPFP + 1400cc injectors and coupled with the PRL Sensor (just to verify content - mine is for sale if you want one ) I had no issues and the car was flying (almost literally )!

I know some set ups use different parameters for FLEX so I wasn't sure how friendly COBB is with other company's set ups. I think COBB is only allowed to use CANBUS set ups (which is fine)

For now it can't read an ethanol sensor directly - you can only use a sensor to manually monitor ethanol content. This really isn't a huge issue as I drove to events on blended fuel for months, but it does take slightly more planning. Cobb seems to be pretty active in supporting the platform though as they have a bunch of hard parts now, so hopefully they work something out soon for true flex fuel!
