You could also use a water cover for the filter just to keep water from getting in it.

These are just starting out numbers for airflow. More to come!Do you have a giant turbo on your car? I see your AFM is reading 370 g/s at max RPM. Mine maxes out at about 280 g/s on the stock turbo, with both the stock intake or the PRL.
Yep i'm old school and much prefer to make my own stuff. Remember the PVC pipe intake days!Love the idea and execution! Reminds me of high school days wrenching on my Ford Probe GT, went hunting in a junkyard and snatched a Saab cold start injector, hobbs pressure switch, a compressor wheel/housing off a Thunderbird turbo coupe, and a set of DSM 450cc injectors all for $50. Found a local guy that could write EPROM chips and had him burn a tune on it for the injectors. Also had to build my own intake for the car from junkyard parts, used a bunch of IC piping pieces from old diesel panel vans along with cut pieces of silicone hoses as connectors. All in, $250 bucks including having the turbo assembly balanced professionally as that was the only thing I couldn't do myself.
One idea to add in here in the theme of DIY, that space vacated by the stock intake box would be plenty of room for a small washer fluid reservoir. If I get some time one day, I may take my stock box out and see about designing a 3D printable or easily fab'd base mount for a universal reservoir. Would be really cool if there was a way to re-use the OE washer pump with the reservoir so all that would be needed is extending the washer fluid pump wiring and lines. Could tuck it up close to the radiator so it's less of an eyesore and even come up with some kind of beauty cover or something of the like for folks that want that kind of thing.
Clearly brother we have moved on from not being able to afford nice things to cherishing the desire to do more than turning nuts and boltsYep i'm old school and much prefer to make my own stuff. Remember the PVC pipe intake days!
Much more engaging making your own stuff.
Brilliant minds think alike. Really like your idea of making something for the fluid reservoir. In the empty space I installed a universal chasebays water reservoir and a catch can.
