A hybrid Type R might work, but someone needs to find a way to cut the battery weight by a lot.
A pure EV like the Tesla Model 3 has a 1,200 lb. battery. That's a killer for handling (and accelerating, and stopping).
Hybrid batteries are somewhat better, but still heavy. In every race car I've ever had we were always scrounging around to find ways to lose a couple of pounds.
Doing things like eliminating spare tires to cut weight doesn't make much sense to me if you're going to add it back in with a big battery.
I remember Colin Chapman's quote about car design: "Simplify, then add lightness."
