Because it will inevitably get asked--yes, you can swap this in for the pleather shift boot in the USDM FL5.

You'll need to remove both shift boots from their respective assemblies (the plastic rectangular frame at the bottom). Each is held on by 12 staples. You'll remove 24 staples, then attach the alcantara shift boot to the USDM assembly with 12 new staples. No heavy-duty stapler/staples needed. A standard office stapler will do the job.

I paid $78 for this item from Black Hawk including shipping from Japan.

I bought the last one of these that popped up and swapped the boot over to the USDM frame. There are a couple small differences between the USDM and JDM boots, but nothing you can't work around. It looks so good now, much better than the shitty pleather!

Did you have to cut the JDM alcantara to fit into the slits to then pop on the tabs? This is a real PITA right now.

There’s no cutting required, just removing 24 staples and reinstalling 12 staples. There’s a “front” and a “back” to the boot, so it’s possible you have it turned the wrong direction if the boot material isn’t aligning with the assembly frame.

If you share photos of the issue, I’d be happy to take a look!

I had to cut the strips on one side as they were doubled up width wise. And the boot was not backwards. Maybe this was an incorrect part number. I got it in with cutting the boot on side and will staple it tomorrow. This is definitely not what I expected.

Hmm, I got the same part number, but don’t remember paying much attention to whether the material was wider on one boot vs the other—I didn’t have an issue stretching tabs over the plastic clips and stapling them down.

Hopefully your reinstall process goes smoother!
