Was a wee bit of a dumb ass last night and was tooling around in my new FL5

I went to go from 4th-5th and whiffed. Went into third at about 75mph. Car didn’t bang off the limiter but the RPMs flew up obviously, clutched in and went into fourth again

My gut says I’m fine, everything feels fine, but are there any lingering effects something like this can have? 2025 FL5, 500 miles (I know I blatantly ignored break in, it’s the only time I’ve done it since buying the car. I just couldn’t help myself)

Since you didn’t overrev the car you’re fine. 3rd gear does high 80 I believe.

lol cars probably fine! We all freak out with our new cars when we goof, don’t stress too much. Have fun and just keep taking good care of it from then on.

Check the mph at 3500 rpm in lower gears and double the mph for redline speed in those gears.
I did this once and 3rd is good for a little over 80 mph. I'm usually to busy to look at the speedo near redline under max acceleration.

Even though you’ve driven manuals for 10 years doesn’t mean you’ve been using the right technique. I recommend learning the muscle memory of shifting in each gear by watching some videos online. It will make sure you never money shift…

I think you’re good in this case. Probably not above 95 mph.

I’m sure you’re fine. I went from 6th to 3rd in my 14 Si once. Sounded like it went way past redline. That was over 100k miles ago & haven’t had an issue since.

FYI, there is no rev limiter when you money shift short of sending a rod through the block.

Sounds like you had RPM to spare and were quick on the clutch.

I once went from 3rd to 2nd at redline (while merging on the highway) in a CR-Z, lol. It happens. Luckily the car was fine. I drove the next 90 minutes in silence listening to the engine out of fear ?

Muscle memory requires engaging in the activity. You can't learn how to drive a manual on YouTube ?

Yep exactly. When the transmission is driving the engine, the rev limiter is no longer able to prevent over-revving.

i did the same thing but from 3rd to 2nd at like 47 mph. scared the crap out of me but didn't overrun the limiter...thankfully. that's what i get for driving half-asleep.
