Hello all,
First post. Just joined and traded my 2024 civic si for the 2025 Type R. I kept hearing the civic si can do 80% of what the type R does but feel that is a tad misleading. This thing is a different animal, a big jump in performance and driver characteristics. Took my first mountain backroad in the type R and I achieved to cause myself some motion sickness. I've never had this happen in the drivers seat and I am concluding it as a testament to just how great the FL5 is. My si had a slight body roll and unpredictable throttle response where as the type R is everything expected from a track car made for the streets, planted, geared proper, and immediate responsiveness in the powerband. Anyways hello to the community and any advice for motion sickness as I plan for my first track day ever?

get a Type S Damper Module to take out some of the bounce. Other than you will get used to it. I suspect you'll be so busy on track that it won't bother you. Oh, remember to breathe slowly if you can.

Congrats on one of the coolest cars ever!!

Thanks I appreciate it, such a dream car for me. I was in sport suspension but maybe comfort is ok for twisties? I have a history with motion sickness and run this car in gt7 occasionally but those game sims can never replicate g forces. Praying I just get used to it. Also I do like the bounce and dont prefer to do the ITS module but maybe I'll cave one day. Im under 100 miles of experience irl so far. I'll give it some time I suppose

I think this is a really wholesome post lol—congrats as well on your new Type R!

Earlier in June I took mine out for its first track day and managed to drive myself into some motion sickness by the end of my fourth 20-minute session out! I’m also a bit prone to it, but yeah I suspect it just takes a bit of getting used to. Stay well hydrated before track or spirited driving days and try to avoid any caffeine intake! Use the climate controls to stay comfortable and just ease off if you feel any bouts creeping in.

Hey im just a wholesome guy trying to aid the community with possible common issues haha. The breathing and hydration is something i may have underestimated. I dont want to take dramamine constantly and probably had too much caffeine and not enough water....I wasn't ready smh

that's why i don't like the "Sport" engine mode in the Si. too sensitive for me. Prefer regular mode. feels easier to modulate throttle.

What altitude were you at? That could contribute.

I think I can relate. I can be prone to motion sickness as well, and I've been in situations where I'm overly excited, a bit anxious because of something new and I can literally forget to breathe properly. Caffeine does NOT help, and it's exacerbated greatly if you're even slightly dehydrated, as others have mentioned. I think many people don't understand just how easy it is to be dehydrated, and most of us do not drink enough water anyway. Also look into electrolyte imbalance. It can go both ways.

Another thing that I've noticed is that I can easily trigger motion sickness with frustration as well. Happens in video games occasionally... especially with repetitive puzzles in a 1st or 3rd person game. I can be pretty excitable in general, and anything that leads to "tensing up"- could be "good" or "bad" emotions- can easily lead me down the path of "forgetting to breathe" and ultimately motion sickness.

My suggestion is try again but approach it with a "calmer" state of mind. And less caffeine, and more water (but not TOO much... unless you're comfortable with stopping and going on the side of the road...).

Our bodies can be irritating at times.

My wife gets motion sickness pretty easily so we've tried a lot of different things

1. My wife gets motion sickness after eating something and then going for a drive so make sure you've fully digested before you drive (this may not pertain to you).
2. Electric pulse wristband can be super helpful. Reliefband is the expensive one but you can find cheaper options online. I found the non-electric wristband to be a waste of money.
3. Like @Chilly613 said, ginger candy/gum helps
4. Make sure you have some air flowing at your face. Either a window open or some AC blowing into your face.

I hope that's helpful! I still remember the first time I gave myself motion sickness (driving down Tuna Canyon road), I was really confused and also slightly impressed with myself. Haha

Just an anecdote, I went some Si to FK8 Type R then put in the LE ADS module in my car.
From Si to Type R, I had no issues. The switch to the LE ADS module actually made me sick for my first two drives in the car, in R mode. However, I got used to it fairly quickly. With any luck, hopefully will be the same for you OP.

Congrats and welcome to the bright side 😆
The FL5 is a special car ! Just remember you don’t need to mod the shit out of her. Depending on your needs just personalize it for your needs and wants and don’t end up down that deep rabbit hole and just enjoy her like she wants you to 👍🏻👊🏻
Love that Boost blue & Enjoy !

Thanks thats sound advice. I do feel like its the closest car to perfection from the factory that I've ever had and dont want to do too much. Ive definitely "ruined" my fair share of cars when the mod bug hit. Also wow such an active forum, really appreciate everyone's responses.

I guess it depends, I am fairly sensitive to motion sickness and cannot be a passenger

yet I never managed to get myself motion sickness when I am driving.

same with a small sailboat 14-16ft. I can sail in fairly rough seas as long as I hold the tiller, but a passenger even on smooth inner harbor, or even on a floating dock, and it's all over for me.

no motion sickness in my FL5, though I do have the ITS module (which I installed to preserve my teeth and my back, not due to motion sickness)

or my previous 07 Si (FA5) which I drove fairly aggressively (40k mile tires bald in less than 14k miles...)

That was the only time I have ever experienced motion sickness in a drivers seat. Im prone to it on Rollercoasters, plane landings, occasionally the passenger seat if my eyes aren't on the road. I believe it was a combination of many things such as being dehydrated, 2500ft+ elevation change, caffeine with an empty stomach. I plan to do the drive again soon but take better preparation and also picked up some ginger gum.
