Did you have to pull out the whole turbo?
I didn’t. But I will say I spent ALOT of time working to get the BPV off and on. I just didn’t have the right tools. Need a snub wrench and the assembler that put my hose clamps on, he was mad at the world. I had to reposition all the clamps on all the dam hoses so I can even get a tool on the bolts. All in all, the spot that the BOV goes is a train wreck. After installing the BOV, it blocks all the access to reinstall the bypass tube(whatever that tube is called that connects to intake tube) I was fighting to tighten everything down after. Engine bay looks cluttered in that area. BUT. The vent to air sound is ridiculous. Louder than the FK8 version I had. No flutter, just straight high pitch iconic HKS BOV style sound. I’ll give it 3/10 for install and 10/10 for 2000s nostalgia. I had the FK8 version installed so I had to remove that first. I started at 4:30 and finished at 10:30. My tool list isn’t top shelf so that was most likely an attribute to the long install time. If anyone is wanting recirculating, I suggest you install at the same time. It will be hell to try and install if afterwards. But obviously, my experience only.

I hope all the trouble it was worth it. If you can post pics/video of the finished product i would appreciate it.

Installed my HKS BOV today, 2hrs later but i got it done. Also decided to go with the Purple Fin for now. One thing i would say, the new location on the FL5 vs the FK8 location, seems to be more responsive and louder BOV sound, even with no engine load.

Yes. Take your time, one bolt at a time. Get a telescopic magnet you’ll most likely need one like me. As you remove the bolts from the bypass valve and the inlet pipe near the turbo housing, keep the magnet close to the bolt to grab them, so they don’t fall down. If not then at least remove the under tray so your bolts, in case you drop any or the infamous 10mm socket like i did, you’ll be able to get them from the floor.

lastly, secure the BOV hose to the bypass valve but don’t connect it to the BOV, leave that for last, you’ll want the space to get all your bolts and plugs back on.

Here’s a video comparison of both HKs Fin’s

Silver fin found on all HKs BOV, traditional/iconic high pitch sound. And Purple fin, which is more of a Turbo Smart and Greddy sound.

No intake will give you that high pitch iconic HKS Bov sounds. Intakes sound is more of the “Turbo Smart” and “Greddy” sound, it’s deeper and spread out sound.

are you planning on it? I love the sound of the vent to atmosphere but i know there's some "risks" associated with it.

Actually i believe where the BOv is positioned now right out of the bypass, its as if, its venting back up to the intake. I could be wrong, but this position is very well though-out and has kept my mpg the same and no hiccups at idle, or even revving. Also being on the cold side of the Turbo it’s much more beneficial. But i’m just judging by what i see. Further testing would need to be made to draw a conclusion if the new location is actually better than that of the FK8 bov location. FL5 bov is before the intercooler, fk8 is after, so they definitely have a different affect on the system
