Hey everyone,

I have an FL5 and am planning to install an aftermarket amplifier and an 8” shallow subwoofer. During my research, I came across discussions mentioning that the factory Bose amp lowers the frequencies going to the subwoofer.

Some say a simple LOC (line output converter) built into the amp will work, while others insist that an LC2i is necessary to correct the frequency signal.

For those who have added an amp and sub to their FL5, what setup did you use? Any recommendations or things to watch out for?

Appreciate any insights!

I’m about to do the installation myself in a week or so. I went ahead and got the AudioControl LC-1.800 amp which practically includes the LC2i capabilities. You can get it off of Best Buy for cheap versus going with an amp + LC2i or LOC

That amp looks solid and a good solution for a built in LC2i.

My main question is whether the LC2i is truly necessary as there are several amps in the $150–$250 range that I’m considering. And if I don’t need an LC2i, then it’s a substantial cost saving.

Thank you for the recommendation. I checked and see it’s on sale. I got it. ?

I spoke with an installer today and he said adding a DSP and properly tuning it will improve the whole system even if you don't change out the speakers...might be something to look into yourself cause I gut lost in the technical mumbo jumbo he said afterwards lol

The days of adding deck, speakers, and amp are gone. Really miss those days haha. I’ve talked to 4 shops and only one shop was able to really explain what they’re were doing. Confusing and tricky stuff lol

I swapped out the stock sub and added a separate powered sub...then I saw some speakers on sale and was like let me change out the front ones...and after that it spiralled out of control and now I have so much equipment to get installed but with Bose system you need tuning and shops want like $1500-2000 Cdn for install and tuning alone...
it would've been easier if it was the stock Honda system but if I could start over I'd pick a really nice Dsp amp..
There's a thread on here by Icehawk in which a few people swapped out the stock sub

Did you install the amp and sub? I bought the audiofrog gs8nd2 to replace the stock woofer and was a little disappointed so I’m looking to maybe add an amp.

I installed the Audiofrog GS8ND2 recently. Its not going to sound as good or hit as hard as a separate subwoofer and amp setup, but it definitely sounds better to me than the stock subwoofer. It might also depend on what you're listening to, certain songs it doesn't sound much different, others the bass is definitely a lot better.

Did you wire yours so its setup as 1 Ohm?

I wired it up as 2 ohm in parallel. I feel like the bass sounds the same as stock. It sounds a little bit better when you turn the volume up to 20+ but I don’t listen to music that loud.

I haven’t installed this yet. Still collecting parts. Definitely recommend getting an amp to power the sub.

I spoke with Crutchfield and the lc 1.800 is too much of an amp for my Audiofrog. What sub are you runnning with it?

Give the Kicker 47Key500.1 a look. 300 watts at 2ohm. I’m running a Illusion Audio E12 which has 300 watt nominal power at 4 ohms. The LC 1.800 has been perfect so far and gives me room to upgrade my sub

im going to run the Kicker 48cwrt82 wiring it to 4ohms which is rated at 300watts rms. Then to adjust the gains carefully since the lc1.800 is rated at 500rms at 4ohms.

Did this fit in the stock woofer box?
