When I built engines, by 1000 miles, a newly built engine went through a minimum of 3 oil changes. If a D&F is not done at the factory, the delivery drive home is enough to warrant the first oil & filter change. Followed by 250, 500, 750, 1000 miles, alas proceed to MM/preferred intervals.

Clearly, we all have different insights but some nail it, by saying, “adjust accordingly, to your driving habits.” Harsh and heavy in the streets, 2500 miles is max. A lot of stop and go, 2500-3000. Long trips? 5k. Garage queen? 1x a month. Considering these are direct injection, 2500 will forever be my max interval.

Take away? ENJOY IT.

I swap at 2k miles myself. It’s about 6 months worth of driving for me. Wear and protection packages begin to breakdown around the 2k mark. Ever since I learned that. Always swapped at 2k

tho to be fair. Wear and protection packages probably don’t all but disappear till maybe the 4-6k plus mark? Would depend on the oil. The motor. The abuse it sees. Etc.

Yuppp 2k sounds good to me. Another factor is gas/fuel type too. But that's an entirely separate debate LOL.

Actually...it's not so much unique oil as it's: "they rely on assembly lubricants (like molybdenum) that remain in the engine and the factory-fill synthetic oil to handle the initial break-in, recommending you follow the Maintenance Minder for the first change, typically around 5,000-7,500 miles, to let these components properly seat."
Where is this quote from?

There’s no advantage to swapping the oil after your first 500 or 1000 or whatever miles. There’s also no disadvantages too

if you’re planning on running anything other than the 0w20, then yeah. U can argue there’s an advantage to swapping the oil early. Only because you’re getting 0/30 or 5/30 or whatever in it.

I think it’s more important to not drive like an asshole the first couple hundred miles then it is to swap the oil

I swapped my oil out at 1k miles. And I tore apart the stock filter and cut it open. All was well so I felt I had the green light to dyno. Mod. And dyno again.

swap the oil whenever U want. U won’t hurt anything. Be mindful of your abuse, if you’re tracking every month ffs don’t go off and think 10k intervals are fine.

Saw an YouTube video(), where this Certified Lubrication Specialist recommend we should do first oil change at around 500 miles. He also mentioned the first oil change we should use Honda's full synthetic oil, "to establish a baseline", and then we can use a different brand, like Mobil 1, or other fully synthetic. But i am curious who on here did not use Honda's oil for the very first oil change.
My feeling is that this guy is a grifter living on the name of his father..I have seen many evidences of Bad Advise from this guy..Do what you will...hurt no one.
I have used All of Honda free oil changes !! why not..I paid dearly for it when I bought my FL5..My dealer even changed to 5W30 because he knew the rest of the world was directed, by Honda to use it..We use watery oil to satisfy some Government regulation concerning a 0.3% increase in fuel milage..but I prefer to save my engine.

Yep, it is regular oil. I did my "free" oil change at 500 miles. The service manager looked at me like I was nuts...I told him, the wear is highest at the beginning so I want to remove all of that possible stuff statistically as I plan to keep the engine.

He got it and was fully supportive.

DId another change at 2k miles and now will do an OCI of 3 to 5k. Less if tracked, a lot less. I used to do oil before a track weekend and immediately after. I have the UK manual and it sure has 5w-30 as ok (and 0w-30, and 0w-20). Car is great. Given the short OCI, I suspect any IL-6a oil with relatively low NOACK will be fine for us. It is a mechanical system and unless you screw up the key is the OCI with good oils.
