Saw an YouTube video(), where this Certified Lubrication Specialist recommend we should do first oil change at around 500 miles. He also mentioned the first oil change we should use Honda's full synthetic oil, "to establish a baseline", and then we can use a different brand, like Mobil 1, or other fully synthetic. But i am curious who on here did not use Honda's oil for the very first oil change.

I run the initial oil for ALMOST the recommended timeframe....15%. Then I'll switch to Amsoil 5w30. Don't change it earlier, that is break in oil from Honda!

Interesting. There are so many mixed reviews; some said to change at least between 500-1000 miles because of many debris in the oil during break in.

Actually...it's not so much unique oil as it's: "they rely on assembly lubricants (like molybdenum) that remain in the engine and the factory-fill synthetic oil to handle the initial break-in, recommending you follow the Maintenance Minder for the first change, typically around 5,000-7,500 miles, to let these components properly seat."

finally. We can fight about oil!

bro U won’t kill the motor if U swap now. Or at 500. Or at 1000. There’s no advantage (unless moving to a different weight oil) or disadvantage

frankly I guess U can make a case for swapping the oil filter at 1k miles. Just so U can autopsy it for glitter in between the pleats. Might as well do the oil change then if U really wanna see the filter and or send in a lab sample

but U don’t have to.

can recommend 5/30 or 0/30 if U live somewhere cold as hell

haha....no fighting. you do you. I always wait AT LEAST 5k on the first one....then it's gloves off after that. Honda is the largest engine maker in the world....I'm ok with what they recommend....sort of ;)

We do around 2,000 on the first oil change, run Motul 5w30 from then on and change every 3,000 miles. I refuse to have the EPA dictate where oil changes need to happen

Yes and break-in is about 600 miles. Is a good idea to change the oil to get rid of all the metal particles

no, break in is when the car tells you, technically. whatever YOU want it to be is totally different though

It is not break-in oil. The combination of assembly lube and standard Honda oil does not create a break in oil.

Break-in oil will have high ZDDP and actually have less detergents so as not to wash the zinc layers away. It will have different friction modifiers as compared to standard oil. It's actually designed for controlled wear and deposits whereas regular oil is designed to reduce wear and deposits. In some applications, if your oil is too good at doing its job, the piston rings won't properly "seat" which is another way of saying that they won't wear-in the cylinder bore.

Break-in oil in these cars from the factory is a myth.

U mean the factory fill oil?

yeah its just regular oil. Not a break in oil.

same on the fk8 fl5 and de5.

no idea where that rumor started but it is entertaining to see folks regurgitate that bullshit and then asked to provide a source 😂
