What's everyone's favorite MTF? Has anyone tried a bunch and have a favorite? The Honda MTF feels so thin especially when it gets hot. I miss the butter smooth shifts of my past cars gearbox's with 90 weight fluid. feels like i have to be super gentle with this thin stuff. maybe i'm just not used to Honda gearboxes.

Which one? I saw this as recommdation but isn’t it the diff oil?
Technically yes! But honda manual trans fluid is 75w-80 so bumping it to 75w-90. Just their standard gear oil. I use the amsoil MTF on my s2000. The reason I did not want to use the MTF from amsoil is because it is rated at 5w-30

I’m changing mine with amsoil 75w-90 gear oil.
let me know how that works out. kind of afraid of going that thick when honda specs such thin fluid, but my past gearboxes with thicker MTF felt so much better. you can really feel the gears with such thin oil. clunky/clanky at low speeds.

i know 27won ran Motul Gear 300 which is pretty thick and they said it was great. pretty sure that's 90 weight.

Hopefully in the next few weeks I will have an update for you. I’m traveling tomorrow for about a week and a half so will be out of the states.

Just drove to work on the Torco MTF and i’m very glad i changed it. Much slicker shifts. No more issues getting stuck sometimes going into 3rd. And averaged 40.8 mpg on the way to work instead of 35-36. Trans feels much happier. Less noisy too.

edit: had to drain it. started getting locked out of 1st and other gears at times. seems too slippery for proper synchro engagement.

Damn you have a damn Prius for a Type R. My testing on ethanol has taken a toll on my MPG’s. Currently sitting at like 19.8mpg.?

I've used both AMSOil MTL and GM Syncromesh with similar results.
GM reportedly changed formulation 10-15 years ago and I switched to AMSOil.
Motor oils and gear oils use different viscosity scales, so 5W-30 motor oil viscosity (AMSOil MTL) is close 75W-90 gear oil.
In the 80's-90's, Honda specified conventional weight motor oils in MT's. Changes in motor oils to improve emissions (lower Zinc for example), necessitated the switch to MTL.

Good to know! Thanks for the info!

i forgot i also put in a bottle of Redline SI-1 a couple days ago. i got crazy good MPGs last time i used a bottle. so probably not the MTF. the Si gets great gas mileage when cruising.
