I'm no manufacturing expert, but I've seen plenty of evidence from inside the factories, just like with the DE5, the bumpers (and I believe fenders...) are painted separately from the rest of the car, on their own line. Basically it's "grab a bumper" on the assembly line. It's impossible to expect every shade to match perfectly under those conditions; some people have better luck than others.

This is the difference between a $50k car and a $70k+ car.

Yes, even in the mystical land of Japan, where everything is made to spec by master smiths passing down their techniques through generations of obsessive training.

So, I never actually saw people discussing it. But did you guys realize how common it is for CW rear bumper color to mismatch the rear side panel (but at the same time match perfectly the trunk lid)?

P.S.: Found all the images on the internet. However, I've done my best so that people can't recognize any of the cars. If someone wants a pic removed, just lmk.

This make sense. I tried to touch up a spot on my rear bumper with the OEM touch up paint (CW) and it was "off" the color match.

I found that on all the cars I've owned, I noticed there is a different color between metal parts and plastic parts. Always been like that for me.

The worse is the tail gate where the license plate is located. The color match is off compared to the bumper. Not if the 25's are better.

I believe a "flexing" agent is added to the paint for the bumpers so the paint doesn't crack easily if a light bump happens to the bumper. Also, plastic and metal gonna reflect paint differently. This is why I don't like Corvettes. The paint never looks as bright as it would on a car with metal body panels.

I could be wrong but I think that section is plastic.

I'm happy with my CTR's CW paint job. Much better bumper match than my TL and FR-S. My car's rear surfaces get dusty fast in the desert anyway.

I’ve never noticed that on CW before but never saw one in person . I can say this though my SGP isnt perfect but meets my standards :) . Like mentioned on previous posts it’s a known issue for many manufacturers. The lighting makes a big difference sometimes matches perfect but in this picture not so much and SGP in general changes color depending on the lighting.

Took a look at the bumper a few minutes back and I can't tell the difference. Maybe I'm color blind
The hatch is certainly aluminum. Had the wing and all interior hatch panels off many times now. But I agree it does require some force to close
rear hatch is resin.

Noticed this on the DE5 for sure. I have the liquid carbon so it's not very noticeable, but on the red, white and blue ones it's pretty easy to spot if you stare at it. I have also noticed this on previous cars as well. I thought it was due to plastic vs. metal.

White is really tough to match with different materials under it.
Back when all race cars were painted rather than wrapped, I painted some white ones. I used the same batch of paint out of the same gun on the same day. The whites were often just a little off across the different materials.
I looked at my 2025 BBP example. I don't see any visible difference, thankfully.
