While getting ready to head out for an errand I started the and was plugging my phone in when I noticed the "Low Oil Pressure - Shut Engine Off" warning ⚠ light. I shut down the car immediately. Got out popped the hood and watched in horror as what seems to be the whole sump full of oil leaking onto my driveway. I am FREAKING out. My last oil change was a few months & 3000 miles ago so drain plug of filter failure seems less likely. Right now my best guess is an oil line failure. The car has been towed to my local dealership. At this point I am so glad I didn't decide to keep the engine stock. Wish me luck...

Smart move keeping the engine stock. Good luck with it, I'm sure they'll get you fixed without a fight. Positive vibes going into the new year! haha

If it got on the hood I'd assume something sprayed on the serpentine belt. Maybe turbo line failure? Either way will be covered in warranty, have no fear!

Really hard to say what happened but if it was bad enough it got on the hood there definitely was some in the engine bay. This could have been bad and would have caught fire I imagine if you were driving and the engine was hot. Thats really odd this happened, glad that you are safe

Woah! That’s a lot of oil! I’m guessing it’s oil filter related if that much dumped out while running it for a minute or two. I can’t think of anywhere else that would have enough oil passing through to make that puddle.

Curious what the root cause was, but it's an interesting point you bring up about keeping the engine stock... I'm assuming you're referencing the warranty claim. I don't really see how modifying anything other than what caused the oil failure would contribute to any issues with the warranty. There's literally a law for that.

I'm not saying that a dealer can't get creative and blame say a Hondata jailbreak for extra oil pressure leading to the failure... but just because you're modified doesn't necessarily mean you have zero warranty.

Magnusson Moss won't save you if you modified the engine

I was think thinking that the silver lining in all of this, it happened at my home and not while driving the car under load. Imagine had I been ripping up a twisty or traveling on the expressway at 70 MPH and all that oil covering the tires. That scenario is a recipe for tragic accident.

First of all, I'm aware that tone doesn't necessarily translate on forums. So bear with me as I clarify that I am intentionally NOT trying to be a dick.

But do you have any documented evidence that this would be the case? And how do you qualify the term "modified the engine" in this context?

I know dealers pull shenanigans all the time. But I'm having a hard time reconciling a warranty denial for something like this if someone installed an intake.

Turbocharger and the leak is from an oil line connected to the turbo? Sure, denial all day long.
