For those who store their cars over winter...are you just using a battery tender or something similar?

I don't plan on disconnecting my battery terminals. I usually just plug in and attach my battery tender to my other cars.

Is that OK to do to the FL5? Mine is a 2025.

Its probably a dumb question, but this car is decades newer than any car I've owned. So I'm making sure I won't screw up anything in this spaceship by doing what I mentioned above.

Thanks in advance!

I use a battery tender on my motorcycle’s for the winter. Also, unless you’re going to actually drive that thing don’t just start it. Moisture buildup can ruin things. Either let it sit or if you’re going to turn the thing on make sure you drive it for five or 6 miles.

I can’t say for sure about the FL5, but most newer cars have a battery monitoring system that uses a sensor to measure current flow into and out of the battery. The sensor is usually located on the negative battery terminal. As long as you connect to ground somewhere other than directly to the battery you will be fine. If you connect directly to the terminal the BMS can get confused.

While I don't store my car for the winter, there can be stretches (up to 2 months) where I don't drive the car and a battery tender works just fine. I've never had an issue and will continue to use a battery tender for this instance.

Second year I am using a noco genius 5 (https://amzn.to/4b5tZSy). Works great have had zero issues.

last year was on it for 3 months and this year been on it for about a month.

are you connecting directly to the negative terminal on the battery with that? Or to metal on the car?

Cool, thanks for the reassurance. I'll go ahead and hook mine up to my battery tender.

I've been storing like 3 or 4 other shitboxes every winter so I know its best not to start them until I'm ready to actually drive them.

Hoping that this winter doesn't have much left in it....but my CTR will probably be sitting for a couple months, realistically.

Sucks because all I've essentially done is drive it home from the dealership haha.
