Considering some Apex SM 10RS wheels. 18x 9.5 53 offset. Wanted to get some feedback from people who may have purchased Apex wheels. Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

I have 3 sets of Apex wheels and really like them. A set of 18" EC-7s for the street (265/35R18 Falken Azenis RT615K+), and two sets of 18" VS-5RS wheels shod for autocross (275/35R18 Continental ExtremeContact Force) and track duty (275/35R18 Nitto NT-01). Quite honestly I like the forged VS-5RS wheels more than my EC-7 flow formed due to their lightness compared to the flow formed wheels.

There is a reason they are the preferred wheel of choice for anyone who tracks or races. Great wheels at a great price with superb customer service.

Agreed. I ran my ML-10RT’s at the track last week.

Big improvement in handling? Any difference in torque steer?

1) Did the off-set on the 5-RS’s work out ok with your set up? (I think they’re 45 vs factory 60) I.e, Did you need to mod to make it work ?

2) would you consider running that set up for daily/street if you didn’t already have your EC-7s ?

3) handling difference ?

Thanks in advance

I only spent a few hundred miles on the stock wheels. In fact, I crossed the threshold of my 600 mile break-in during my second session of the day at Lime Rock Park. The CTR handles better than the '21 BMW M2 Comp I traded in for the CTR.

I have not noticed any meaningful torque steer during my time behind the wheel. I had an '85 Chrysler LeBaron GTS with a 2.2L turbo back in the day. Now that was torque steer that would put you in a ditch if you weren't prepared.

They work great. I used Apex's fitment guide (https://apexwheels.com/fitment-guid...fl5-civic-type-r-wheel-and-tire-fitment-guide) and haven't had any issues. I purchased based on the guidance. Only mod I've done to date was pull the camber pins and go full negative camber up front, which is under -2degs, for track driving. Still isn't enough, so I have a camber adjustable ball joint kit going on in the Spring.

I'd absolutely run the VS-5RS wheels as daily wheels. I like the look of 275s on the car vs the 265s.

I do all my playing in autocrosses or at the track, so don't have any real exp with the stock set up other than I love the tire choices 18" wheels give me over the 19" wheels.

I have VS-5RS in 19x9.5 +45 on my DE5. It does have noticeably more torque steer due to the decreased offset. I didn't want to believe it, but it's science. I got used to it but as torque steer is primarily what's kept me away from FWD the past 25 years or so it does irritate me from time to time.

They look absolutely amazing though. These wheels were sort of a "consolation prize" because I couldn't find a set of JDM wheels that I liked that didn't include a 6 month+ wait, but I'll be keeping these for the foreseeable future.

I wouldn't go this far "preferred wheel of choice for anyone who tracks or races ". It's a regular option, but not the unanimous preference.

They are a fine wheel. China Forged, but focus on useful specs and respond to community requests -- like the B Street Legal +53 -- which is pretty neat,

Are they the strongest, no. Are the best, no. Is it the first wheel I consider, no. If you can get them on sale, then it's a good deal, but they are rapidly approaching $3K, which is a bit much for what they are.

You'll be fine at +45. Is it a little noticeable, sorta. At the limit, you just drive. I got wrapped up in the overthinking this, and only ran +60 for the vast majority my first season in the car, but when I tried +45, it didn't really phase me. I now have a set of TWS RS317 in 18x9.5 +46, and this set of SM-10RS in 18x9.5+53. With that said, I haven't used them yet, just grabbed them on a local purchase. They will be fine as a compound test wheel.

Apex is great, I have EC7s as my track wheels on the FL5 and had a set of FL5 on my old M2, no complains at all.

Actually this set of EC7s did have an issue on one wheel when I got it, Apex not only took care of it but I had already had the tire mounted before noticing the problem and they paid to get the tire re unmounted and remounted to the new wheel they sent me. Top notch customer service

I have the forged SM-10RS and very happy with them. Picked up a set of EC7 to replace them for dedicated track use. Will be selling my SM-10RS at some point this off-season.
