Oh man I agree 100%. I just don't know what I want to buy and hopefully keep if I don't get the R lol.

I have a very strong chance of getting the GRC, but I'm falling out of my initial love of it lol.
I love the FL5 CTR and its my #1 choice, but it'll also be my daily car, rain, shine or snow. So my consolation if I end up with a GRC instead is that I won't feel as bad putting it through the winter ?

GRC interior space isn't as nice, but I'd imagine it would have more of that "hot hatch" feel vs the Type R, while the Type R will feel like a more mature and comfortable space.

Interesting that our consolation prize is a first choice for many others, lol. I'd be happy with a grey circuit edition, but would prefer a white Type R. The latter I think I could keep for 10+ years, whereas the GRC would be offloaded sooner than that. Too "boy racer" for my preference as a 45-55 year old

I say drive what you want, why you want.
Life's too short.

I'm capturing my preferences there :) I want the Type R over the GRC because I like it better overall, interior and exterior

Apologies, meant that as an 'in general' statement ^^
(as in don't worry about what people would label you based on what you drive)

IMO the FL5 is superior in everyway except the GRCs AWD.

I 100% want the R way more. If only am able to get the GRC I'll probably try to trade up to a TYPE R own who may want AWD LOL.

I don't really want to discount the GRC... The Yaris seems pretty wicked. This feels Americanized. Plus, something about Toyota building something purposeful that is in line with what I like has seemed appealing. We will see. I think owners of either will not be disappointed.

The GRC is amazing in CE trim, core trim is very boring for me. I mean it will probably be super cheap in core trim. I'll be able to throw $$ at it to make it suit my needs.

But the rear capacity is really cramped. Trunk space is very limited for a hatch. Fit and finish is subpar vs the FL5. And the overall visual isn't as nice IMO.

It probably will drive like no other though and the engine is probably the most unique to come around in a long time.

I'll really have to drive it to see whether or not I would keep it or trade up.

Personally, the design of the GRC doesn't appeal to me.
Being from a rally-inspired foundation, I bet it'll drive like a bat out of hell though!

Yup, I think the GRC took too many cues from the FK8 with the fenders etc.

The only saving grace for me is how it will drive vs the competition, which I expect to be amazing.

I agree with this general sentiment. I quite like the GRC and commend Toyota for building it. I believe that it will see cult status in its own lifetime. 100hp/cylinder puts it in rarified territory. All that being said, the gap between cars that I like and cars that I want to own is wide, and the Corolla simply doesn't make the latter list. I'm very, very particular.

Yes! It's like Sonic and Boost Blue. I like them. Don't want to own them. (Sorry for those catching strays)
